Help me remember the name of these (sci-fi) books...

I read these books (3, but the series might have been longer) back in the early-to-mid 90's and can't remember the names...

I seem to recall that it might have had a short title, maybe one or two words.

The best I can describe about them was that they were set in the future and the whole world had adopted "Asian" culture and mannerisms. The main plot of the books revolved around political intrigue in this future society.

Your help is greatly appreciated, I have been wracking my brain and can almost see the book's cover in my mind, but not quite.

PS- FWIW, I seem to recall that the first book was great, the second was pretty good, but I had to force myself to finish the third... But if I would like to re-read them and see what I think 15 years later (I seldom read anything just once).

Thanks again in advance.

Can't comment on the books, but thank you, thank you, thank you for "wracking". I am so tired of reading of people 'racking" their brain, even in newspapers which should know better.

I suppoese "brain racking" is what they do when they want to leave it at home.:D Sounds painful, though.

Is that more or less painful than brain raking, or is it what you do after brain washing to prevent shrinkage?

Are you going to re-read the books now you have found them?

Why would you spend your time away from posting to BF? ;)

I sure am.

I already found and downloaded the whole series onto my ebook. The only problem is that I now have over 60 books lined up waiting to be read on this thing.(I am reading Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land right now.)

BTW, For anyone who loves to read, you should consider buying an eBook. I have always read a lot, and this thing is just incredible. I have used it to read probably 25-30 books since I got it for Christmas...

This is the model I have...http://www.ebookwise.com/, but there are many others on the market.

I too had been an avid reader but as I've got older I find it painful holding onto books for extended periods.:(

Until your post I had not considered an ebook as technology change is so rapid what is 'in' today in on the scrap heap next month.:(

Thanks markkksr for the ebook idea.

But I still want to make 3,000 BF posts by the end of the year!;)

I read that a couple of times, when it came out and a year or two later. Thought it was great. Read it again fairly recently and it just seemed dated.

Another Heinlein that used to be my favourite was Glory Road but, not having read it recently I don't know how it would stand up today.

I might have to look into one of those ebooks.

Thanks for the suggestion.
That sounds a lot like Edgar Rice Burroughs's Princess of Mars series (AKA the Barsoom Series). Good, old-fashioned swashbuckling, fun books (and quick easy reads as well, not everything needs to be a brain-buster). Check them out if you are looking for a fun book that can be read in a day or two. But be warned, you just might get hooked and have to read the whole series. (10 in the series)

I have all of Heinlein's work on my computer, along with several thousand other books. I will add Glory Road to my eBook the next time I link them up...

I remember reading both of the Heinlein novels (plus hundreds of other sci fi books) back in the early to mid 1970's. Besides the issue with holding onto books these days, I have resisted re-reading the classics of those days because I want to keep my fond memories of them intact.

But the more I think about the positive benefits of the ebook reader, the more I like it and it might just open up 21st Century writers to me!:D

It is hard to go wrong with Heinlein. I read everything of his that I could get my hands on a few years back and I should revisit his work.

I don't usually re-read books but I've been through Frank Herbert's Dune series several times.

Way back, way way back, somebody lent me some speaking books. These were on cassette tape, (anyone remember those?), and I could play them in the car. Absolutely fantastic for driving, you could "read" a great book while stuck in traffic or whatever.

I receive books on tape from my father before every trip back home to Oregon. They sure make the drive more bearable. The only drawback is that sometimes I'm still listening to them for a weeks after I get back. :D

I really can't praise the technology highly enough, no matter which brand ebook you choose.

There are few times when I can say "It was due to abczyx that I got one of those!" but in this case markksr I will happily think of you as I sit back and enjoy a good read of an ebook on my ebook reader! ;) :D

I think I've read all of ERB's stories. What about the Lensman series by 'Doc' Smith, read those?

Speaking of reading devices, I've just discovered that you can get an app called eReader for the iPhone I just bought. Sure, it might not be as good as a dedicated reader, but worth trying.
