Help me spend money on a new Shiro!

Hi all,

I've been trying to shrink my collection and go more for quality > quantity.. In that vein, I already have a Shirogorv Quantum, and a hation zero.

The quantum is probably my favorite knife, the hation, not so much.. I pretty much never carry it.

The hation zero is a very nice knife, but I just prefer the quantum so much more. The way the quantum deploys, the contoured handles, the little details. The only things I don't like about the quantum are the blade shape as the tip feels a little fragile (I prefer the shape of the hation blade there), and the size is probably at the upper limit of what I'll carry everyday.

So, I'll probably sell the hation zero. What (currently or soon available) Shiro should I replace it with? I don't want to go bigger than the quantum.

If I had to guess, I think the F3 NS seems like it would have most of what I like about the quantum, but I'm not up to date on all the models and variations of them...

Suggestions?
 
I just got the F3NS and it is an amazing knife. Mine opens and closes untouched from the factory as smooth as my 110KS and my doctor death. Both of those are almost custom built . You won't regret getting the F3NS.
The regular 95's are very nice too.
 
F95NL 3M...

That's the one I'd get. Seems to be the best of both the F95 and F3. Double Ti of F95 with contours, backspacer, and ergos of an F3. I'd just want one plain with no inlays.

in your situation I'd go for a cheburkov ... but I'm biased because I looked at both makers side by side for value & aesthetics - I concluded alex was the winner

I have a real visceral oooo factor every time I look at the russkiy (so it's my current my grail)

ps-both makers are outstanding, so you can't really go wrong

Is there a good guide somewhere for all the different Shiro letter codes? I know the basics of the models, like f3 is the liner lock 95 and such, but have no idea on the variations for each model - such as NL, NS and 3M?

I've looked at the Cheburkov's a lot in the past too, that russkiy does look pretty nice.... may have to consider that too

I'd be interested in a guide, as well.

The Bear's Den may have reference to one.

Though, to answer your question about the newer codes, I think this is what they are:

NL: Inlay (play on the sound of the letters)
NS: "New Series" (the F3 NS was introduced in 2020)
3M: "3 Bear" (Russian word for the animal "bear" begins with letter "m")
 
Have an F3 and an F95. Love em both. Can’t go wrong with either.
 
Another question - one big difference on the current 95 and the f3 NS is srbs vs mrbs... as both of my current shiros have mrbs I have nothing to compare to.. will I actually notice the difference?

I’m just afraid that the quantum has spoiled me :)
 
F3NS or F95NL 3M (fat carbon version). You'll LOVE'm. I have those two and the Quantum, they're similar but also very different. All exquisite.

I may want another Hation Zero, message me if you decide on selling.

Thanks for all the input everyone.. and the flow chart is really helpful actually!

I think I'll keep an eye out for either F3NS or F95NL 3M now.

Do the 3M versions of the F95 show up very often at the two US authorized dealers, or is that going to be pretty hard to find in comparison to the plain F95 NL?
