Help me through the waiting days

Okay, another first for me. Josh, at Red Hill Cutlery gave me a good deal on two Queen Birdseye Maple knives. One is the Folding Hunter and the other is a liner-lock, single blade, Teardrop Jack. Both in D2 of course. These will be my first Queens (not counting Queen made S&M HJs), my first knives in Birdseye Maple, and my first knives in D2. They were to be shipped today and probably won't be here until either Friday or Monday. The wait is agonizing. I can't wait to get my hands on them.

So, my request is for any of you folks out there that have knives in Birdseye Maple stocks, show em to me to help with the wait. This isn't the usual show me thread. I have the next one of those in mind for later in the week after the trapper thread has had a chance to run. Nope. This is an honest to goodness plea to help me keep from going bonkers in anticipation.

As if the agony wasn't bad enough. I just got sniped out of a Queen Stag soddie by a buck. It went for $47.

I might mention that in the last several years I haven't cared much for wood stocks on knives or handguns, leaning more to stag and bone. And of course, yellow handles. ;) But these birdseyes sure look attractive.

I have a few new things to enjoy, but sometimes there is just "that" thing you are beside yourself waiting for.

Yep, I'll scan em in when I get em.

Amos,Here are two pretty crappy night time pic.'s of a not so bad whittler.

Nice one!

...And you can almost imagine that jivedaddy's Jack is a HJ, if you squint real hard and hold your breath. ;)

Nothing a little grinder time won't fix.

Edited to add: Wait, with D2 maybe it shoudl read LOT of grinder time.

It is so very kind of you fine upstanding members: VCM3 & jivedaddy to get one of my beloved partners Amos Iron Wolf through his DeToxification period in his time of need by giving him a quick fix with some very nice looking examples of Birdseye Maple slippy's of your own..:D

Great looking knives indeed too be sure!

My pleasure,I did send Amos a PM,also.Did you notice,Amos?

I just looked when I read the above. I always forget to look at the PM counter.

As SunnyD said, good of you all to help. I perk up and eye the front steps every day now, even though I know not to expect anything until end of week or early next. I've been getting "presents" as my wife calls my incoming "presents I have to pay for" spread out over the last week or so. Mostly really inexspensive stuff. She came out of the Post Office with a large, Priority envelope in hand and it was a letdown that it was her Math textbook for the fall semester. Even though I knew nothing was coming via USPS till later, I'd gotten, shall we say, conditioned. :D Can't keep that up though or I will have to work two jobs instead of a little overtime when available.

WOOHOO! Not only did I have two packages in the mail, a Russel Green River and a Kershaw Military Boot Knife, but I go home and there on the step was a box from Radcliff, KY!

A good way to top off this day. It's my 10th Anniversary with the high school sweetheart I finally married 21 yrs later and I'm still pretty darn fond of her! She took off the day from work and we went to my Dr's appt at VA with the one who's been working with me on my diabetes and cholesteral. I was expecting to get fussed at and instead was told how good I've been doing. Well she did fuss at me that I had to stop drinking sweet tea. We've gotten to the point where as long as I maintain or improve we won't need to see each other. She's a cute Doc, but I think I'll be okay not seeing her. ;)

Other than spending time together and enjoying each other's company we didin't do a lot today, but Carole and I kind of figure each day is part of our celebration so we're pretty good just remeniscing and being glad we survived to get to where we got back together and have had these years.

Oh yeah! The Queens. Here ya go. A scan I did. Doesn't really do them justice, but at least you can see them. Very nice knives indeed.

It's almost nap time. I think I can nap quite contentedly.

Edited to add: After I made the scan the shield fell out of the teardrop jack! Fortunately, I found it and will glue it in later. Not perfect, but good knives it seems.

In follow up, on the folding hunter the master blade has great snap, but the skinning blade barely snaps back. I've oiled the joints and will see how that works. I hate to box things up and send them back, so I'll have to see how it works in. I am getting some of the polishing gook out and the blade at least does snap back in, though with a snick, not a snap. It does snap open, it just closes a bit soft. Probably not too bad a deal since being the skinner this is the sharper blade.

I've been working it between typing this and it seems to be doing better. Yeah, I think it will do fine.

I've never sharpened D2 before and from listening to you guys I'm a bit leary. Can it be done on oils stones or is this the time to get a set of diamond hones?

It'll sharpen on oil stones, it just takes longer Amos. That said, I'm going to order a Lansky diamond set. I used to use their regular one, but gave it to my son-in-law. I love the way it keeps the exact angle, and it's easier on my old arthritic fingers.

The knives look good Amos. I took the plunge earlier today and ordered 2 of the BEM models, a whittler and muskrat.

D2 is tougher to work, but the tradeoff is that you should need to sharpen it less often.
