Hi BF,

The two knives I am currently deciding between is the Benchmade 908Bk Axis Stryker, and the Benchmade 940Bk Osborne. This will be used primarily in more of an urban environment, but also a little outdoors. I want a knife that is great at cutting, that is very capable, I don't have to baby, lightweight and strong. Here are my reservations about both knives.

Benchmade 908Bk Axis Stryker:
1. Is it worth the 1.4oz more than the 940BK?
2. Will the G10 rip my pockets?
3. Will it take up too much pocket space?
4. How comfortable is it to EDC?

Benchmade 940Bk Osborne:
1. Is the overall "girth" of the blade to thin?
2. How much does the green handles "stick out" in contrast to jeans?
3. Does the knife accept deep pocket clips?
4. Does the knife have enough traction so if I do use it for harder tasks, will I slip forward and slice myself?

These are my current thoughts. I want to know how you feel/think about the topic! Feel free to suggest a different benchmade.

For typical EDC use the lightweight and narrow profile of the 940 excels. However, if outdoor use is in the forecast, and strength is a concern, the 908 is a better choice. The 908 carries very well also. Not as good as the 940, but good. The 940 will offer better edge retention, but the 908 is easier to maintain. The open construction of the 908 will also make it esier to clean and less susceptible to dirt and grime in the handle.

Don't really want to fork up the extra money for the features (carbon fiber, little bit better steel etc.)

Roger that. Are you considering anything outside of Benchmade? I know you named the two but wasn't sure if you were open to others.

The 908BK is a solid choice and is the one that I would choose out of the two you named.

I have many other knife brands that I use to EDC and idk if I can say the name/models of them in the BM section. I feel the axis lock for is best for EDC. Due to the one hand accessibility easy to use, and can make even very light knives strong. Which is why I am looking at a benchmade for my EDC.

Nothing wrong with your choices, but I voted "other."
If you don't already have a Griptilian, you should get one.

I have a 553bk, but... the blade is dulling and I don't like the half serrated tanto blade style really, but it is such a hassle to send the blade in.

I am surprised about the voting. I haven't seen many reviews on the 908bk, but a lot on the 940 and all raved about the knife. So I assumed that people on this forum too would be extremely pro-940 Osborne.

I voted for 'Other' as I have no use for coatings. My blades are always PE satin unless the knife isn't offered in that configuration. I have to see a satin 908, but the Osborne 940 is one of those you either like it or don't. I've owned a number of these, but in the stock anodized aluminum variants. Great knives, surprising length of blade given the slimness. Not a heavy duty EDC, but very easy to carry. They have been around in one form or another nearly as long as the 710, and that really says a lot.

Interesting, and the 940 I am interested in buying does have stock anodized aluminum handles? So...? Also, I ALWAYS use black blades. So, if the 940 didn't have a black blade, and since it has the standard handles would you recommend it? Yes, I would consider the stryker more of a "heavy use" EDC folder than the 940. But, the 940 for the weight, and size it is very strong and capable it seems.

In the standard configuration, green scales and black blade would fit your parameters. The 940 continues to draw a crowd with it's slim profile and that beautiful reverse tanto blade. Would I recommend it in lieu of the 908? Yes.

Stryker and 940 are two of my favs. You can't go wrong with either, the 940 is pure class and is plenty strong, Stryker is a bit larger but carrys well still. For a cheap alternative to an awesome EDC grab a full size standard drop point griptilian.
