Help me understand the Small Khuks?

I really like the idea of a small khukuri as a general duty camp knife for every-day carry. I found the Pen Knife pass-around thread, and was very interested to read all the feedback about the PK. I can't find much info on the BDC/New Model (not even size and weight info). Can you guys help me understand the relative merits of these two "little khuks" and how they compare and contrast as a general duty knife?

Hey Bismark:)

I can't comment on the BDC as i haven't handled one yet, but like so many others i will sing the praises of the nobel PK. IMHO, Dan really outdid himself with the design. A lot of us "weekend warriors" like to picture hiking into the forrest with a 22" GRS on our backs to clear a plot for our log cabin and to slay the dreaded ninja Grizzly wielding an atomic deathray. Sadly, thats not the case. The PK is pretty much the best camp knife that i've ever used. It chops about as well or better than a small hatchet. it has enough point to dig into areas. its stout enough to pry on stuff. It doesn't really raise eyebrows or at least compared to an 18" AK or something of that ilk. As a bonus, you can use it to flip burgers. I actually did this. Works great. Tactical Spatula (Tac Spat). I love all my khuks. They all serve a purpose and serve it well. The niche of the PK (for me anyway) is that of general purpose hiking/camping/traveling. I don't hit the trails without it. Happy hunting.

I wonder if anyone else has the idea to pair up a pen knife with a Sarge hunter come delivery day?

I just realized that stats for the BDC were available in the UBBB threads. So, it looks like the BDC and the PK are fairly similar in size. I am really intrigued to know if anyone has taken a good look at them side-by-side. Has anyone done a practical review of the BDC here?

I guess if the BDC keeps showing up at sale prices here I will just grab a 10" and see how I like it (OK, I'm sure I'll like it, but I'll see how it meets my needs)...but I know I'll probably end up buying a PK as well...

Bis, the 14" BDC is exceptionally nice! :D

The 14" really does look like a beauty. I think I want the 10" though--I'm looking for something small (I'm pretty well covered on big Khuks) that's more of a slicer than a chopper. The Pen Knife is probably the more versatile blade, but that sweeping curve with the 2 fullers...and the horn scales...and the conventional cho placement...the BDC is such a work of art! It's something I would carry on my belt just for the pleasure of having it about my person.

Wow, it's nice to have found a group of guys who will understand when I start to get sloppy sentimental about a piece of steel :)
