I've pretty much decided that I just want to have 5 customs and 5 nice production knives.
So far on the custom side I know I will have 1 from Alan Davis. I'm fairly sure it will be Damascus with a carbon fiber bolster and blue handles with yellow bronze anodized screws and such liner lock file work on blade spine...themed towards night time is kinda the idea. might get it frame lock and try to have a day/night theme where titanium side is day and cf side is night still thinking on it.

2nd custom I'm fairly sure would be a folder from ray laconico full titanium d2 steel with hopefully some simple milling done on the handle like on a recent 1 there was just a small line milled out.

3rd I know I will get a shamwari orange g10 either frame lock or liner gwl34. I should be on gareths wait list but I have no idea when this will be available.

Last 2 are undecided

On production side m390 pm2, benchmade 710 in m4, Chris reeves zaan, strider sng green cpm 154, hinderer 3.5" undecided color spanto in carpenter steel(name escapes me atm)

So what do you guys think have I missed something so far.. not everything is definate so feel free to post any thought or other knives you would suggest.
On the remaining 2 customs some that I'm considering are shirogorov, mikkel Williamson, jake hoback.

Thanks everyone for looking

I've got a Shirogorov 95...love it...thinking about getting another

Personally I'm a big fan of Hoback's knives. I love the rugged, beefy look of them. I think it would contrast your other custom knives nicely

One thing to consider is ray laconico isn't taking orders rite now...so keep that in mind.

If your into them tuffthumbz (geoff) is making tuff toads for blade hq (mostly friction folders but there's supposed to be a couple frame locks!) also maby look into a good fixed blade?

On the production side maby consider a higher end zero tolorence (560 561 and the upcoming 666)

How does it carry for you I've been a bit worried about it size. If I'm not mistaken the total length in a little over 9" and the blade around 4" making it a big knife at least to me

I have a 0561 right now I just don't see myself keeping both a hinderer and it at the same time the Todd rexford model coming out does interest me tho.
Thanks for your other suggestion tho had not heard of that.
Forgot to mention fixed blades are a seperate thing for me I leave those to Matt Bailey

I have one of these on order atm...

I'm getting the bolster and lock side bronzed and orange peeled and 2x2 twill cf instead of 1x1. His normal Bluephin is a beast at 9 3/4 overall and a 4.25 inch blade so I had him scale mine down to a 4.5 inch handle and 3.25 inch blade. It should fall somewhere around 5oz.

Might be nice to add some ethnic flair or a flipper to your customs.

+1 on all the Shirogorov recommendations, dude makes some crazy blades.

Shirogorov M95 is awesome!

Also consider Calvera Cutlery.

I had looked at pohan a bit the knife size was definately an issue then I ran into this thread here

And it worried me so I turned away from it

Yeah the OG Bluephin is huge, luckily he can make them much smaller.

I actually saw that thread the day after I placed my order with Po. Nobody's perfect and even knives from top tier makers have issues now and then. The design is exactly what I wanted and I had read enough praises of his work that I wasn't shook by it.

Im not trying to say anything bad about Po at all Ive always been interested in knives for quite some time but I had only owned kershaw knives before my interest picked up more and i wanted to start getting finer high end knives this was probably 4months ago so I'm still extremely new to this part of the knife world now that I know a bit more bout Po I wouldnt have a problem buying one of his knives Im still considering it.

With that said yesterday I passed up rays moonglow jade blast flipper I rather it have been full ti or cf and a jasmine model so I couldnt pull the trigger. I'm thinking bout maybe getting a Jb Blount surge instead partially because I dont know when the chance to get a jasmine like that would be and its pretty unlikely I would get it even then.

Ive also kinda decided that 1 of the 2 remaining customs will be an overbuilt tank of a knives (looking at medford praetorian) open to a lot of suggestions on that

as always thanks for all the advice

If you are staying at ten knives, then I feel that one of your custom choices should include a slipjoint. It would allow more discrete carry than clip folders, have a variety of blades to accomplish more tasks well (splinter removal, delicate tasks, more pure slicing tasks), as well as adding more diversity to your collection. You can find them in almost any configuration, my thoughts for a collection would probably be a sizable stockman with punch blade for more tool usage/abusive tasks not suitable for a slicing edge. You can have them in nearly any steel or handle choice imaginable, and by your choices you are willing to spend for quality.

Another thing to consider is a custom fixed blade- EDC size or full Bowie/chopper. Again, it adds diversity to the look and usability of your collection. The material choices and variety of designs should be included in any small size restricted selection of knives, with Koyote, Fiddleback, GL Drew and DFarmer knives are all great knifemakers that I endorse from my own collection.

You do not say if there are reasons for only choosing clipped folders, and if it is just that they are your style then there is nothing wrong with that! I really endorse Alan Davis' knives as a solid choice, I own 8 of his knives (4 each folders and fixed blades), and his execution of my design has it as a 80% of the time EDC. you can't go wrong with fixed blades or folders with him. John Lloyd would be my suggestion to start looking at custom slipjoints if you wish to consider adding this type of knife (and a steel handled Swiss Army Knife should be part of any collection if feel as well).

Other established makers of Clipped Folders you should consider in my opinion are:
Alan Elishewitz- smooth solid lockup, tactical look with artistic flare
Pat/Wes Crawford- well established tactical makers and great gentlemen who just had a tragic family loss. I would love to some day own a Perseco and Crawford/Kasper Folding Fighter. My Point Guard is a great knife, and I carried their Survival Staff with shepherds hook daily in my wheelchair and after as my support when recovering from broken legs.
Or leave the last spot for an unknown knife that you find at random on the exchange and can be first to say "I'll take it!" That is how I found many wonderful makers and great knives!

Good luck on your search for your perfect selection. As for myself, I had a hard time picking a top fifty when my wife asked.

I just dont have any experience and know very little about slip joints so Ive left them out...not a bad idea though

I have Matt Bailey working on some fixed blades for me and I dont plan on getting any more fixed blades after that (his just speak to me)

and the crawfords have some terrific knives...I think your right about the last knife slot Ill see something and HAVE to have it time will tell
