As a Doc, I love the Marine Corps. I love the history and heritage. I like my weapons the same way. While I might not have a vintage WWII Colt 1911- I have a series 80 officers model 1911 that I carry because I love the history of the 1911 and the punch it packs. I also have a Winchester 1897 trench-gun which the Marines also used back in WWI and WWII. Now I need a fixed blade to augment the collection (as well as a Springfield '03 which I will have to save up for.) What I am thinking though is a short USMC KA BAR. Short to make it more utilitarian and easier to carry- and the KA BAR because of its history in the Marine Corps. Any opinions or suggestions???
Thanks,
Doc

I forgot about the Bravo 1. I was also wondering about the Fairbairn Sykes. I'll check it out but I don't know how "historic" it is.

Any opinions or suggestions???
To accompany your firearms, how 'bout trying for a USMC knife that is no longer in production, like a PAL or Camillus.

Something shorter than the full-sized USMC, how 'bout the Pilots Survival Knife.

Check out civilian marksmanship program for springfield 03 they were fairly inexpensive awhile back when I bought my Garand. As for the knives go for the regular old stacked leathered handle ka-bar, thats what I and most people think of when we think Marine ka-bar.

I'm not sure if there was something special about it or not but the '03 I looked up at the local gun shop was $1,300. Thanks for the info.

The Pilots Survival knife is a smaller version of the k-bar. That would be a nice choice in the field.

Check out the Strider SMF made specificly for Marine Recon With an actual DOD number, not TOO historic but it will be, and the Kbar next gen D2 are AWESOME.

Here is my MARSOC Version SMF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strider_SMF)....

I ended up going with the short ka-bar tanto point with kraton handle. I like that it is still a ka-bar, and also very modern. I am not a fan of that fuller on the blade of the short USMC version. It goes perfectly with my 1911 that came with black grips on it, I Will post some pics as soon as I get a chance.

Here is something I read about WW I rifles in a gun magazine, although I do not know a great deal about rifles, just what I like to see. It stated that the Doughboys carried more Model 1917 springfield/enfields than 1903's. The1917 was made by Springfield for enfield, but they are harder to find than the more popular collected 1903. Also, for a classic knife, even if you already picked up one, the modern versions in Kraton of the older Marine knife look great and are in keeping with tradition.

I believe KA-Bar makes a knife stamped NAVY Doc. Get one of those that way you can keep in the tradition and have your branch of service marked on it too.

Thank you for being there to patch us up Doc.

Semper Fi!
