Ladies and Gentlemen-

I am about to end a GREAT year in sales and will be receiving a fairly nice bonus in a few months. My goal this year is to make, what we call "President's Council" which is the top 1% of sales reps in both sales performance AND leadership - I am in the running and have a good chance of receiving that award...

ANYWAY, enough of THAT - let's get to the good stuff: AWARDING MYSELF WITH A CUSTOM KNIFE!

I wear a suit everyday and would like to add a very nice smaller custom folder to my pocket as my workday knife. I currently carry a small Sebbie and it is, at times, alittle large when I open it up in front of sheeple. In my industry, perceptions are SO critical, that "scaring" someone b/c of my knife size would not be that good. SO, I have considered getting a new knife that is custom (fits my likes and desires) and smaller (fits my sheeple created needs.)

Here is what I THINK I would like and I am asking for your advice on a few things:
>>Suggestions for a CLASSY and DRESSY and PROFESSIONAL looking knife
>>Suggestions and your experiences with current makers (please include websites and/or emails if you can.)

I love the Titanium look
I like black and silver together
I would like a blade no longer than 2.5"
I like all kinds of blade styles
I like the look of things like what Mr. Lightfoot does with his blending of the scales and bolsters (I think the terms are right) where they meet past the pivot pin in the handle of the knife) [I hope that explains it well enough]
I would like to spend LESS that $300 if possible.

Please help with suggestions and thoghts. Thanks, and I KNOW that I will get GREAT suggestions and thoughts on this project.

David

PS- I love tactical knives as well and want to work with David Dempsey on a new tactical fixed blade, but was not sure if he would be the guy for the small dressy folder as well.

In that price range I would check out Gene Andersons folders at swbladecraft.com. He does quality work at good prices. See if you like the styles he has.

I'd suggest talking to David Mosier of DMKnives, he makes very nice CF/steel handled folders in reasonable prices. Most of his current models are larger than 2.5" but maybe he can make you one.
Charles Marlowe, Matt Cucchiara and Tom Anderson also make very nice tactical folders for very reasonable prices.

First of all, congratulations on your success. I know that came with a lot of hard work. So why are you wasting your valuable time on the forums talking about toys! ? :p

I'm a bona fide Sebenzanista myself, but there are other knives in the world, and since the Sebenza may be too aggressive, I second the suggestion of a Mnandi. Very classy but still an effective working blade at 2 5/8".

Before looking at true customs, which can go over your budget very quickly, take a look at the William Henry and Klotzli lines, also. Like CRK, they have to be considered semi-custom, as well.

Congratulations! I aspire to CRK and WH, and if I had a spare $300 that's the way I'd go. Enjoy!

Definately take a good look-see at William-Henry before you make the plunge. These guys make THE best looking gent's folders I've seen, and the sky's the limit as far as how much you wanna spend. I'm continually impressed every time they bring something new to the table. Their knives are elegant works of art with a razor edge.

As an afterthought:
Some of Chris Reeve's Mnandi's are real eye catchers too. What a delightful dilemma you have. :D

All the best,
Mike U.

William Henry Kestral with Mokume damascus bolsters and black palmwood scales. Under 300 bucks at several places on the net.

That "Spark" has a Sebenza look about it, a really solid little knife, good competition for the Mnandi :D The scales are beautiful.

I am not a big "gentleman's knife" fan, but based on your needs I would think that a William Henry would be perfect. Most non knife folks will want to pick it up and hold it, as opposed to being "scared".
