Im a traditional kind of guy, I'd like to upgrade my daily carry knife (Rotating between case canoe, case trapper lock, and SAK Compact).

The case don't have scissors, which I'd like. The SAK would be great if it didn't have a couple things.

I'd like a knife with blade, scissors, bottle opener. Is there such a beast?

Or do I just carry a good blade, a good scissor, and a good bottle opener?

I don't really want a sofa bed knife (its an OK so and an OK bed but not good at either)

It sounds to me that the SAK Compact is about as close as you are going to get. The Rambler is a 58mm SAK that also has what you want, albeit on a small scale. It has only a 1" blade, though.

Or, a Victorinox Cadet would have you covered on the blade and bottle opener, and then you could add a Victorinox Classic on your key ring for the mini scissors.

Check out the Victorinox Bantam. It gives you just the blade and bottle opener. So maybe Bantam + Classic.

There is no SAK that has only blade, scissors and bottle opener, so whatever you do will be some kind of compromise. The Compact may be as close as you are going to get while still having a decent size main blade. Good luck.

I think there are only 2 solutions. The first, as Powernoodle suggets, is to get an SAK that has the combination of tools that you like. The problem I have with this approach is that I get bored and want to carry another knife but I always want the core tools with me like scissors, cap lifter and screw driver blades.

The other solution is pair your rotating EDC traditional with a small key ring type tool. I carry mine in my LFP with my money clip. I find them to be so much more useful in my pocket and not on the key ring, with keys flopping about. I know some guys carry them in their watch pockets.

Here are some shots with the same tool with some of my most commonly carried knives..

What he said: Leatherman Micra. Whatever blade I carry, I always have a Micra on my key ring. The scissors are better than those on the SAK, and the spring won't fail.

Victorinox claimed they are adding scissors to the Pioneer sometime (early?) next year. That would be a blade, awl, scissors, flat head/bottle opener, and a can opener.

I would disagree that the scissors are better. IMO the SAK Classic scissors is sharper, and holds it edge much better than the Micra. I use scissors a lot and have found a single Classic has lasted longer than 3 previous Micras. In fairness 1 of the 3 Micras had a tool failure that led to its demise.

Thats kind of what I figured....

I used to bemoan the lack of traditionals with a decent, and by that I mean relevant to today's world, set of tools and for many years, refused to put 2 knife-ish things in my pocket.

Now, I see it as a real freedom. I'm free to let my interest in traditionals meander and wander as my whim leads me and I don't have to stress about having the right set of tools with me.

I don't know anything about this, I'm not even sure how I ran across it but it seems to fit your criteria.

Great mindset!

I'm going to try and work a set of Gingher nippers into my pocket sheath and see how that works out...
