So the knife maker is ready to build a new lot of knives which will include my order for a 3" gentleman's tactical folder.
This is my first time specifying my options. I have the obvious items, blade steel, handle color and material, blade jimping, backspacer. finish on the frame.

What am I missing?
Those of you who have ordered customs before, what did you specify to make it more personal?

or better yet, show me your customs.

thanks for any ideas :-)

Tweezers!

Can't be a gentleman's tactical folder without tweezers! ....or was that a tanto tip? I forget. Maybe only 3.25" gentleman's tactical folders must have a battle-ready hard use tweezer included?

Some offer the option of a swedge, which looks especially nice on damascus blades. Make sure there is a scallop on the scale so you can access the thumb stud, if you are getting a thumb stud. Specify liner lock or frame lock or other. Lanyard hole, if you want one. Pocket clip, if you want one (and short screws so you can remove the clip and replace the screws with shorter ones.

If the pocket clip is embedded, you will want a spacer piece to fit in if you remove the clip. You might want the scales chamfered (or CC'd) or beveled (not sure of the term) so they taper from the center to the edge.

I've found that a slight orange peel finish does not show marks like bead blast does, on Ti.

Specify the thickness of the handle scales or request a specific color/thickness of the liners.

Oh, and you can have the liners jeweled, and some filework on the spine of the blade and the back spacer, to further personalize it.

Some excellent suggestions. Consider the orientation of the pocket clip as well (point up, point down, RH, LH). Some makers can make a lanyard bead out of the same handle material for you if you are going with a lanyard tube. Consider your edge preferences and whether you want a sharpening choil.

I am getting closer to commissioning a custom folder with a maker (Alan Davis) who made several fixed blades I own, but I am still on the fence over a few particulars. Best wishes to you on your custom and please post some pics when you get it.
