My friend is in the market for a knife, and naturally he came to me ("the knife guy") for some advice.

He came up with very few criteria but I was surprised how few options I could come up with.

Flipper
No liner/frame locks
Around a 3 inch blade
Under $100

Pretty much the only thing I could think of was a Kershaw RAM (which is a fine choice). Before he pulls the trigger and orders one I thought I would see if you guys could suggest anything else.

Why no liner/frame locks. They are tried and true and proven to work, though debatable to the elitist.

I don't think it's that he doesn't trust them, it's that he wants a locking system that does not require your fingers to be in the path of the blade.

The Kershaw RAM has a flipper and the lock sort of works like the axis. You can close the blade without the fingers getting in the way.

The RAM is a darn fine choice and I like to play with it when we have it in stock at the store and it is also nice because it's a Kershaw that is also left handed so it gives some variety.

The RAM would be my choice, too.

You could also consider the mini-mojo/mojito. The studlock works well, and it is a fast flipper (AO).

I also wouldn't hesitate to recommend the RAM.

The more I handle it and use it, it's a very fine knife.

The Mudd design boasts a very comfortable handle, excellent blade, and a safe, strong lock. It was my fourth Kershaw (110V Shallot, Needs Work, Tyrade), and has duly impressed me.

as i read your friends criteria i was thinking RAM in my head. so id vote for the.... yup you guessed it! the Kershaw RAM!

Two that have been mentioned are good choices, the Ram and the Mini Mojo. I'd add the aluminum handled Speed Bump (1595ALBLK). A bigger brother of the Mojo, it's an AO, with the stud lock. The blade is longer that 3" tho. Around $ 50 on the auction site.
