Hello all,

I am new here so I hope I am posting in the right section. My brother recommended me trying out this site for my quest to find the perfect pocket knife for my not-yet father-in-law. The subject, Tom, has a pocket knife that when folded is just over 2" long. The pocket knife has several tools which Tom uses, especially the screwdriver heads. The issue with the pocket knife is that it does not lock. I thought a great present idea would be to get him a new one that is just like his old one but which locks. Turns out this is easier said than done. I am having great trouble finding a pocket knife that locks, is small, and has several tools. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Christmas is right around the corner and I really want to find one that would be a good fit for him that he would actually use.

Thanks!!

Victorinox Swiss army knives comes to mind, but all of the models they offer with a locking blade are much longer than 2" (around 4"). The Leatherman Squirt fits the size criteria and has a good number of useful tools, but I dont think the blade locks (Im not 100% sure on that, but I'm sure someone on here will know). And there's the Leatherman C33Tx. It locks, has screwdrivers, but its just shy of 4" closed.

Leatherman Skeletool maybe? The CX version features 154CM blade steel (better edge retention than the 420HC on the standard one) and carbon fiber handle inserts (doesn't add function, but looks cool). It's a bit bigger at 4" (closed), but it does include swappable screwdriver bits, pliers, wire cutter, and carabiner clip (which also serves as a bottle opener). The blade itself is 2.25".

I can't think of any multi-tools around 2" in length that have locking blades. The Leatherman Squirt (various models) or Victorinox MiniChamp would be my best suggestion there. Neither of those have locking blades though.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. We're going to end up getting him a few different ones and let him choose because he is so picky. I appreciate the help!

Has indicated that this is a problem? Literally millions and millions of non-locking Swiss Army knives are put to use each day around the globe. If I were you, I'd select a nice Victorinox or maybe Leatherman product, and lose the lock requirement. Too limiting.
