I need some advice on which Surefire would be best for use while hunting.
1. E2E HA Outdoorsman with red filter for
night use.
2. L4 Digital Lumamax. Does Surefire make
a red filter for this light.
3. A2 Aviator with red LEDs.
Here is my thinking. The E2E Outdoorsman is a great light. If one need more light, just change to a 60 lumen lamp assembly. Add a red filter for night use. Can change to a LED head at any time. The L4 Lumamax is as bright, or brighter, than an E2E. There is no lamp to burn out or break while out in the field. The A2 Aviator with red LEDs seems to be the best of both worlds. A bright light to use while waking to a tree stand, and red LEDs to use while in the stand. I am buying this flashlight as a birthday gift, and I sure would value any oppions on this subject. Thanks!

i would get the E2e HA myself, has the brighter lamp and i always end up w/the brightest lamp i can get irregardless of a few minutes of battery life, carry spares or an inova LED light for close up use, thats what i would do anyway. i just dont think the LED's i have seen are bright enough to blow off the SF, not the inova anyway have never seen a SF LED, maybe they are brighter than the inova??

I really like the A2 with Red LEDs. This was my primary EDC for a long time before the L4.

SureFire's L4 has a 5W Luxeon LED that has the same output as the E2e and a constant output (regulated) runtime of 60 minutes.

I think the A2 (red) sounds like a suitable flashlight for your application.

If you're talking deer then I would get the E2E and rather than buy a filter, get a red led microlight (photon, inova, arc aaa, etc.) to put on the lanyard of your grunt tube. That way, once you are in the stand you don't have to move around much to get to your light or risk dropping it. (That is a stupid thing I have done before! I dropped my Pelican Super Sabre light years ago with it on. It landed pointing upward at about a 30 degree angle blazing away. Had to climb back down and get it. Now, before I start climbing, my E2E goes in my pack and I only use an arc aaa on the lanyard of my grunt tube.):D

SureFire do have a Lanyard Kit for the A2 and L1.
The Z60. Not yet released though.

Dano, I think that SF makes the best flashlights on the market. I have other brands of flashlights, but none measure up to my Surefires. With SF, I feel that I am getting my monies worth. As you know, they reek with quality.

surefires are definitely way up there as far as quality, but not for battery burn time..........I would be looking at some bright LEDs if I were you considering the activity you are going to use them for.

I use a mini mag to get to and from my stands(just to be seen, don't need a light to find my stands)and a E2E that stays in my pack. The E2E is for tracking after dark, which is one reason I prefer to hunt mornings,as it only gets lighter after the shot.

Some years in both bow and gun I may hunt 30-40 days some of my stands are a 20 minute walk(although my best suburban stands are next to a house and parking lot,I'm talking 30 yards).20 minutes in 20 out,I would burn up a lot of batteries and bulbs in my e2e plus the walk in alone eats up alot of light I may need for tracking.

That said,I really like having the E2E with its one hour of bright light just in case I ever need it.Most likely though I'll let the deer lay down and come back in the am.

It seems like SF's run times don't seemingly apply to intermittent use. I guess I haven't turn one of mine on and just let it sit to see how long it would really go, but in my real world scenarios of turning it on to find something or get a bearing on where I'm going, my batts seem to last forever. I guess I usually only will have it on for 30-60 seconds at a time in most instances. I have a KL1 head on the way for my E2e-HA for those "just in case" times when it may need to run extended periods.
