Hello gentlemen and thanks in advance for your assistance,

I live in the desert and therefore don't know squat about ocean kinives, but a good friend called me from Rhode Island, asking for my recommendations in a knife that would not only gut fish but also save his life if his waders filled with water in rip currents and he had to cut them off before he drowned. He wants a fixed blade with extreme rust resistance in salt water. I immediately recommended Spyderco's salt-series knives but most of their fixed-blde models have now been discontinued.

He prefers a fixed blade, hopefully with partially serrated blade, but I would be very grateful for any recommendations from you experienced ocean fishermen. Your input could possibly save a life.

Thanks very much!

Plain edge knives are poor at cutting plastic/nylon fishing netting and line. It is usually a good idea to have a plain edge on one side and an aggressive serrated edge on the other that wont bind on different types of netting or clothing. Stainless is obviously mandatory.

Pacific Salt, Dragonfly Salt, or any of the other Spyderco Salt knives. I think the Pacific would be good.

Boye knives are good too but expensive.
