On Tuesday I'm going in for surgery to reattach a ripped bicep tendon to the bone.
I won't be able to use the right arm for three months...YIKES!!
I forgot that I'm gonna need a bag or pouch to use. Carry wallet, money, camera, pda or pad, knife..About it I think.
I need to order before Tuesday.
Belt mount or sling..I guess and Easy access left hand only use.
Which one?
Fatboy, I think is just for righties
Spec Ops pac rat?
Maxpedition..which one??
Thanks for thoughts, info, etc.
Tom

I hadn't known about this. I'm very sorry to hear it. Don't push it ... take all the time they tell you to before you ratchet up the activity level. (Do as I say, not as I do! :p )

I suggest you get a pouch on a sling, because a belt pouch will be too limited in size -- or your belt will have to be too tight! You won't be able to get to or reach inside a small belt pouch as well as a larger slung pouch. Also, a larger pouch can be organized, which makes the Pack Rat a good choice, with all those pockets separating items you don't want to have to fish for.

I don't know if the Pack Rat comes with a sling, just that you can attach one. Make sure you have something for it.

Get well soon!

My Fatboy hangs best on my left side. Seems that would be perfect for you, too, no?

Jim, I didn't realize the fatboy hung that way?
I thought it hung over the right rear pocket.
BUT
You wear it on the left so that sets me straight.
Thanks.
Esav, Yeah...you're right a sling is probably best as it can be on/off left handed.
Yikes..A pack rat inside the fatboy??
hmmmm... maybe!!

Fatboy is just one compartment without pockets. Right?
Tom

The Fatboy is designed to be worn over both the left and right shoulders. Accessing the bag is easily accomplished using one hand. it has a large main compartment that will fit everything you need to carry in it.

If you are not too dextrous with your left hand, you may want something simple like the Eagle Creek Guide Bag. I have one that I use while travelling sometimes and like it. It does not carry weight as well as the Fatboy but would be great for daily activities while your arm is mending. http://www.backcountry.com/store/EAG0042.html?mv_pc=r126&CP=Froogle&CMP=KAC-Froogle
Also, it is only $30 so, if you do not normally carry a shoulder bag, you want regret the purchase three months from now.
For info sake, I have a Fatboy too, it is built better and handles weight easier. However, it is a tradeoff in the righty lefty dept. If you are a righty then the Key Clip is on your back out of easy reach. If you are a lefty then the cell phone pouch is on your back out of easy reach. You can still get to them but it may be difficult to access with limited dexterity.

Eagle Creek makes tough stuff. I have an older version of that Guide Bag -- pretty worn out now, it was my woods-walking pack -- that has tuckaway backpack straps as well as a removable shoulder strap. The only possible problem for Tom is that it's a deep bag, and he doesn't want to go reaching all the way down in the main compartment if he can help it.

Yup. I think mine goes back about 15 years, 10 at least. They are great bags. The front pockets and slots carried all the small stuff very handily, the big front flap was a large pocket itself, perfect for magazines or a small handy notebook. Durable beyond belief, scraping on dirt, rocks, thorns and hardly a mark.

I used to have a contractor's briefcase that held tools, prints, folders, etc. Had pockets under the cover flap made of duck cloth, had a zipper in the top to access contents without unflapping. Coolest thing
Stolen filled with great little tools testers etc. They changed the style so now no top zipper that'd be a help.
Made by Bucket Boss?

BUT A BRIGHT NOTE
USN Brother EDT is loaning me a Fatboy to try out or use till I get well (nothing to do with my mental state)
Thanks EdT
If you're over here also.
Thanks to all who posted and keep the ideas coming. It's early in the game Watson!!

Great! If that does not fit the bill, I can loan you an Eagle Creek Bag or a simple canvas haversack if either would help.

I've been happy with the gear I bought from them. Very sturdy, quick delivery, great capacity ... different style from most other bags.

On a less serious sidenote...
Think of all the stuff you can shove up into your sling... How about a nice 8-9" bowie? :D

TOB, I feel your pain. I broke my right hand last year and learned what they mean by "dominant hand". Bad part (in a way) was that I carry a Seb, and you cannot manipulate a righty with your left hand. Good part was that I got to buy a lefty Seb.

A Fatboy will work well on your left. I carry mine on my left to avoid it being in the way of my pistola. Other than the drawcord, which you don't have to use, manipulating the zipper and fas-tex should be easy enough.

Here's some other things I found out:
If you carry a gun, I hope you've already practiced a lot of left hand shooting. I always shot well left handed, so it was no big deal, but it wouldn't be the time to learn. If you do carry, carry something with a lot of bullets in it, as reload times are glacial.

I also learned to write somewhat legibly with my left hand. Not easy, but you can do it if you concentrate. Typing, however, you can only do at half speed at best.

The absolute worst was trying to put on pants. It's impossible to pull them up, hold them in place, and get them secured with one hand.

Driving. If you own a standard shift, you'll be bumming rides for a while.

Eating. No problem stuffing your face, but cutting food on your plate is a bitch.

In the end, just kick back and accept it and make the best of it.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys. :D
I tried out a CountyComm BOB and it works pretty well. I'm looking to use the farboy.
I feel a review coming from this situation....

Mongo, I already have thoughts on that one. A CS trailmaster

Geraldo, I've been practicing with the limited use right hand and I still don't yet have the impact of NO right hand:eek: I'll be ordering some velcro lace? shoes. And I'm NOT kidding!!
Pants are a whole other story. Lucky I wear suspenders. :p
Guys, try to zip up leftie a unique experience for a rightie.

Esav, right on..Maddox ordered.
