I am writing and desperately in need of some hard facts about a handleless knife. I remember seeing one as described below... but have no idea when or where. I have no clue whether it's an actual weapon or just a movie prop. *lol* But I need to find it ASAP.

So, where can I find info on a knife with no handle? It would be shaped almost like a tear-drop, suited to be grasped primarily by... I believe the thumb and first two fingers. (Almost in the same way you would hold a fan.) It would be a single piece of metal or wood with a single sharp edge.

Any suggestions at all would be most appreciated!

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

What you're describing could be any one of a number of knives, the description being vague ...

There are several types of knives like that. Most likely you're referring to a lapel dagger. Lapel daggers I've seen have been double-edged.

Push daggers are another, with a t-handle at the end of the blade, handle going in palm, blade on a stem going past fingers, like the Urban Pal.

Another might be the similar short handled type, like the Nealy Amoeba (bottom of the page) or Cold Steel Desperado.

Any type can be made with a skeleton handle, that is, without any material fixed to the tang (the handle part of the blade).

Sounds like the lapel dagger to me. Do a search for OSS dagger and see what you come up with or wait for one of the knowledgeable folks here to post a link to some site dedicated to info about WWII hideout knives.

This knife is very much like what you describe, more of a metal tap then handle designed to be pinched between the thumb and knuckle of index finger.

a nifty little way to cut the crap out of your hand;-)>
