Hey everybody. I know this will sound terrible but I just don't seem to come upon many uses for my knives. I work in finance in an office and I just don't seem to find tasks besides cutting food to use them. Does anyone else feel like they are trying to find uses as well? What does everyone else use their knives for?

In an office environment? Hmm. Let's see. Open envelopes, open boxes, cut fruit, cut loose string on clothing, open food packages, cut tags off of new clothes, sharpen pencils. A knife's uses are many, no matter where you are. Also, if you're on the road, you have a rescue tool that can be used to cut off a seat belt and pull an accident victim from a burning car, or even save your own life.

It's better to have a knife and not need it, that to need a knife and not have it.

Mine comes in handy as a paper shredder, without even having to leave my desk! Also, let the office supply person know you are "heeled" and they will come up with lots of uses for you and your bladesteel. Always some new supplies to open and have the boxes cut down

Thanks for the response guys. I actually have been a member since December 2000 and have been posting as "bass" for a while but I lost my password for that username. I own over 20 knives and was also thinking in terms of the weekends for chores, etc.

Hi again bigbass,
Sorry for the "welcome" in my first post.

A little knife story:
Saturday night I was at a 40th b-day party and there were alot of kids there. At some point the kids wanted to play with the balloons but noone could seperate them as they were tied in large bunches.
Can you see the moral of the story yet?
Both my wife, with her CaseXX MOP Peanut and myself, with my SERE 2000, came to the rescue. We had little ones waiting in line for their balloon.
It might have been a small thing but it felt good to lend a hand to help out the kids (and the parents too).

You never know when you might need a knife. They really do come in handy. Especially to the non-knife carrying people around you.

My motto is:

It's better to have a knife and not need one, than to need a knife and not have one.

A girl in one of my classes was trying to make a stand out of cardboard for a poster. When she asked me if I had a knife she could borrow, I just smiled and said, "How big?"

Raptor,

I sincerely apologize for coming off defensive in my post. I know that you were just joking around. Your second response reminded me of something I did. I was actually at a wedding this weekend and I had my Spydie Experimental on me. I noticed that the parking sign had blown over from the extrememly strong wind and this place was hard to find. I cut some streamer from one of the balloons tied to a stop sign nearby. Then I cut a hole in the bottom of the cardboard sign and looped the streamer through. I tied the streamer to a heavy rock and the sign stayed up. I was pretty happy that I could help. Thanks again for the responses guys. This was one of the few times I have really used my knives lately though and I would love to hear more stories.

Get a nice key chain lock blade. They cut the plastic bands on the paper boxes. I am a staff accountant and found it a nice little helper to open those reams of paper for those reports that are always needed. Maybe next year I'll have my CPA and I can have one the other newbies "bring" me my reports. Down side is sharpen often.

Well said, Paracelsus.
Thought of a couple more, tho my brain is lagging badly tonite:
Peeling
Splitting
Slashing
Slaying
Scarring
Scoring

I'm pretty sure that the people I work with think I'm weird. If there's an empty box around most guys will walk it over to the dumpster. If there's an empty box around on my shift you'll find it at the bottom of the trash can. In 1 inch squares.

Don't forget these five important tasks:
Carrying it in your pocket.
Taking it out of your pocket.
Opening and closing it.
Admiring it.
Putting it back in your pocket.

Dave (who never can seem to find anything to cut, but doesn't let that stop him)

Bigbass... you said you are in Finance and you are looking for some way to use for your knife... maybe you could trim some overhead, cut costs, or slash budgets...
Let's hope that staff cutbacks are not necessary.
... and yes, this is my first post.

I've noticed that when you use a nice 9" bowie as a paper weight the noise level around the office tends to drop a little. It works better if you remove the sheath and place it in plain view somewhere nearby.
