Title says it all. I have turned to traditional slipjoints as of late and I am really trying to cut down on my edc blades but still want a one handed locking edc blade. I love the Endura but which one do you prefer (FFG or Saber) and why? I currently edc a Victorinox Explorer and Opinel #8 Inox for foodprep and slicing capabilities. Looking for something to cut cardboard and medium to heavy duty tasks. I should note will continue to edc the Explorer and Opinel. The Endura won't be my only edc blade

FFG=Slicey

Saber= Not as slicey

Both would be excellent EDC companions, but since you have been using the Opinel and the SAK I would say the FFG would be more up your alley. The tips will be different with the FFG having a finer point. Either way though they both would complete your said tasks with ease.

FFG 100%!

IMO all the Sabre does is look tougher. Lets face it, this is a sub 4 " folder not a beefy fixed blade. If you ever cut cardboard, or food like apples among other things you'll thank yourself for going FFG. Another plus: pretty colors.

Most definitely, the FFG blade looks good, and the variety of handle colors is another plus. I also think the FFG optimizes the VG10 performance in that size blade.

FFG is better, unless it is an Emerson Opener (waved) model that needs the blade mass to open all the way.

That is true. I have a wave Delica that kinda gets stuck after a FFG regrind. I just use the wave to open bottles now, I'm good with the Spydie hole.

Get Sabergind Fully serrated :)

With the Explorer and Opinel, you already have 2 thin slicers. So go with the Saber. Chicks dig the Saber. And the Saber slices just fine.

The FFG cuts better. *I* have experienced no cutting task for which the saber is preferred.

Both are capable of taking an amazing edge, but for my use, the FFG is the clear choice.

For tasks that some would consider abuse for a folder, the saber will be slightly more robust...but it wouldn't be my choice for these tasks as the remainder of the platform is best suited for cutting. (Said another way, if you want "hard use", neither is a good choice)

It really doesn't make a dang bit of difference in my view. The saber grind has that transition between the primary grind and the flat that probably adds a little bit of drag when moving through the media that being sliced. So I think its objectively true that the FFG slices "better". But we are dealing with very minimal differences here I think. Prior to the FFG Endura, I don't recall anyone ever saying that the saber Endura couldn't slice. They both slice pretty darn good. In fact, they slice exactly the same except you pick up maybe a little bit of drag with the saber.

For me, the slightly different feel in the hand, and the balance of the knife are more prominent than any difference in cutting. The saber Endura is just a slight bit heftier and more solid feeling in the hand, whereas the FFG Endura is more light and airy. Slightly, but noticeably in my view. I like them both. But I hope we just keep in mind that the differences between the two flavors are very subtle and not really something that you'll notice in real world usage unless you are paying real close attention and trying to notice the difference.

No one complained about the saber drag just like no one complained about Gin-1 steel, but the eventual evolution to VG-10 has demonstrated to many of us that it is a superior steel for this blade.

I cannot argue with balance preferences, but to say that the added drag is a non-issue makes me wonder why someone would polish the edge bevel?

This is something I have studied considerably. If you want less compromises for cutting, FFG is the clear choice for me.

If you want even better cutting performance thin the blade down further to reduce the primary angle even more (though, this is a bit more of a marginal improvement).

They both would make a great EDC as people have stated, might just boil down to what exactly you would think you will be cutting. The FFG will slice better than the saber grind. Personally, I prefer the asthetics of the FFG on the endura and delica compared to the saber grind. Pick the one you like best!

When I start sharpening a knife on the Edge Pro, I don't stop until I hear angels singing. It just so happens that the mirror edge appears right about the same time they finish the first verse of The Hallelujah Chorus.

I had a Saber grind Endura and didn't care for it and sold it. I've not yet tried the FFG version, but have one on my list. I still have a Saber grind Pacific Salt, but wish it were a FFG.

And if going to get a fully serrated.. go with the Pacific Salt.. no liners (which I prefer) and the H1 serrated is supposed to be super tough compared to the VG10 SE.

I've got some Militarys and Para2's for cutting jobs, but for EDC I like my old Endura3 with a saber grind. When I first got my G10 Endura, it wasn't as sharp out of the box as my Endura3 and the saber grind was out cutting it. The differences are really pretty small. I think when you get into larger and or thicker knives, the difference between saber and flat grind is probably more noticeable due to greater drag. My Superleaf despite being flat ground has quite a bit of drag compared to the 0.120" knives.

FFG makes an enormous difference in thick cardboard, compared to the saber grind on the D4/E4.

I second the vote for a Pacific Salt if one wants full SE.

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES! This turned into a great discussion! I ended up buying both and will have them tonight. I will post pictures with my initial thoughts
