HELP NEEDED! I can't decide a companion knife

First off, hello! Long time lurker in this sub-forum, first time poster.

I have a Spyderco Military on the way and I need help with a companion knife. I always carry (at least) 2 knives on me and with the Military on its way I need advice on what else I should carry to compliment it. I plan on carrying and using the Military only in emergencies (be it when I need a longer blade or if I run out of bullets for self-defense) with that said, I would like to carry another Spyderco that would fill the role of "the" edc knife that I will do the majority of cutting with (breaking down cardboard, using it in public, cutting packages open, zip ties, etc). I do not want it to be too close in size or intended use as the Military. So far I am looking at the following:

-Caly 3 Super Blue (although I am worried it may be closer in size to the Military than others listed)
-Spyderco Chaparral
-Spyderco Sage 1

I absolutely love the Endura 4 but that is definetly too close in size to the Military. My least favorite Spyderco is the Delica as the ergonomics are just too cramped/wrong for me. Weird since the Dragonfly 2 works well ergonomically for me but is just a little short in the blade.

So first, out of the above 3 which would you choose? Second, are there any others you think I should consider?

and as a side note (and I realize this may be blasphemy - I do not care for the Paramilitary 2, I have had 4 of them and could never warm up to them)

Thanks in advance!

I'd try out the Caly Super Blue while it's available.

Later this year the carbon fiber Chaparral will have the CTS-XHP blade which should be a pretty nice little EDC.

Any of the knives in you're list would make a fine edc but I'd buy the chaparral...

So hard to say. I really like my Sage1, but it's so close to an ideal EDC size that, if I had a Mili (or my Para2) on me at the same time, I'd want a tad smaller, and thinner/pointier/slicier.
I think I'd go Ti Chaparral, which looks awesome and has CTS-XHP already.

You summed it up exactly how I was thinking. I feel like if I had a Sage 1 or 2 I would look at the Military and ask myself why carry this? I want something kind of the opposite of the Military

Any of the three would work.

I regularly carry a cat with my military. If I carry anything larger, I feel like the smaller knife could do everything. It would make the Military redundant.

Since around 2004 I have carried some type of Spyderco Hawkbill with my main EDC. Currently my main Spyderco EDC is the Sprint Run, G-10 handled Ayoob model with a plain edged VG-10 blade that performs great.

Now each day I always have some sort of a Companion Blade with me>> and most of the time it's one of Spyderco's great Hawkbill blades. The Harpy is by far my favorite to carry with whatever great conventional type Spyderco blade that I might be EDCing at the time. I find that a fully serrated Hawkbill blade is so unbelievably handy and is capable of doing so many different cutting jobs. A plain edged Spyderco model like a Military, Endura or in my case a C-60 Ayoob model is a realy nice thing to have.

I also find that some of Spyderco's "reverse S" type blades are great companion blades as well. AT one time I carried a Dodo model as a companion blade.

I will never give up carrying one of Spyderco's great conventional designs but having a full Spyderedged Hawkbill gives you a tool set up that will come in so handy that you will wonder how you ever got by without it.

I carry a SS Cricket SE with my M390 Military. A PE blade is most versatile but having the SE Cricket allows for a smaller and more discreet, yet still very effective, cutting tool.

Oops......Just noticed you weren't too happy with the Dragonfly blade length so the Cricket would definitely be a no go. Of the three you have, I'd go with the Sage....awesome blade, very comfortable handle grip.

I always have a full size Matriarch in an accessable pocket for a backup. I always like to carry one PE and one SE to make sure that anything that needs to be cut will be.
