Review Help needed! Is this an early run or a fake?

I was given this Strider Knife as a gift a few years ago. I honestly treated it like crap because I had no idea how much these things went for. I used it more as a novelty to pull out and say in my worst Aussie accent, "that's not a knife. This is a knife!" whenever someone would pull out a regular sized folding knife. Well, recently I found out what they go for! Holy crap.... Do you know how many times I have left this thing laying around overnight in the ER? In an ambulance? Sitting in the open in my unlocked car? /facepalm.

Anyway, I started to try to figure out which series it is exactly, but I honestly don't see it. The handle is not "curved," enough to be a SNG, as mine is more square, as you will see. I then started looking at youtube videos to see if it was a fake. After several comparisons, I don't think its fake because A) it's super light, lighter than some smaller folders I have, B) the clip, handle, and hardware are non-magnetic, C) the engravings for "Strider" and the company symbol are correct, i.e. engraved and not laser etched. What throws me off though is the shape of the handle. It's very square as you can see, and not wedge shaped like every picture of ever folding Strider I can find online. Also, every pic I see online, there is a hole for a strap either in the bottom corner of the smooth side (the side without the belt clip) or in the center like mine is, but appearing to go through both sides. Lastly, mine is numbered. As far as I can tell from my limited research and non-existent experience, is that Strider only numbered blades in original series knives. Maybe that is why mine is square and not wedged? Maybe the feedback from these is what caused the future SNG's to have the more ergonomic wedge handle?

Any feedback would be MUCH appreciated.

Not enough of a Strider expert to tell if it's legit.
I can tell you that it's a Strider AR. It has been a discontinued model for some time now.

My WAG is that it's real . But I'm even less expert than you so I wouldn't put money on it ! ;)

It's a fake,I'll give you 20 dollars for it :)

In all seriousness,I couldn't tell you if it's real or not.If it is real I would still use the crap out of it.Maybe just not leave it laying

It looks real but I'm no expert on striders. They are ment to be users and Peter's does the heat treatment and they use good steel.

Strider gets a lot of flack and heat and rightfully so. The knives are known to have issues and support issues (at least in the past). They are known to be brash on social media...its actually got pretty bad from time to time. But the #1 issue is the stolen Valor. They made stuff up to sell knives when they started out.

So most people avoid them. That's not to say they aren't still popular. Some folks choose to ignore all that and others are ignorant of anything about any of that.

Ive got a strider .. It came in a packaged deal. It's fairly nice to use as a knife, but I hate carrying it in my pocket, can't store anything in my pocket cause I can't get it out without taking out the knife. I hate how the action sucks on mine too. If I loosen the pivot it has too much blade play and don't get me started on the proprietary hardware pivot. I got an sng iirc. It almost never gets used and I don't want to send it in due to all the stories I've heard about the support.... Not to mention they kinda stopped making production knives.

If you like it, keep using the hell out of it. It's good steel.

Thanks for all the feedback fellas. I'm positive that it's real at this point. I just need to get it cleaned up and put on eBay now. No way am I carrying around this bad boy anymore; I'm more of a Walmart knife price point kind of guy. I just don't know what to ask for it. I see SNG's in "like new," condition going for $1k. Mine is not like new, but I have yet to see an AR platform Strider for sale anywhere. I've also not seen any numbered blades like mine. Any ideas?

Like others, I’m certainly no Strider info source, but... If I was in your situation, I’d research whatever Strider has by way of a “spa” type service. If they have such a service, it might be a worthwhile investment to get that baby factory serviced back into “as close to new as possible” condition.

Not an expert either but the butt of the handle looks not wide enough. It looks different from any other Striders that I have seen online.

IMO you really shouldn't sell it. It was a gift after all, and not a cheap one even when purchased. Somebody spent the money to give you a nice knife, so why not keep using it.

The person who gave it to me is a family member I haven't spoken to since 2015, over some petty garbage, (their choice, not mine). There is zero sentimental value to me in this and knowing that person, they probably regifted it anyway. More importantly, is the value. I would be beyond livid if I lost this thing now that I know what its worth. But because I now know what its worth, it will be sitting securely in the gun safe until it finds a new home; which benefits no one.
