Hello. I am new to these forums and I have a question about selling knives. I am currently in possesion of several knives with blade length varrying from 3" to 4 1/2" (not sure if that matters) and I want to sell them on ebay. I live in the state of North Carolina. are there any laws restricting me that would not allow me to sell these knives or am I free to go ahead and put them up for auction? thank you so much to everybody that helps, sorry if this is a stupid question. thanks everyone

You can check the Bernard Levine section on the Forum to see the laws for your state. There is always a possiblity of selling a knife to someone who lives in a area that has a law against selling that knife. I would suggest using the large knife companies "no sell to list" for certain items and in general stay away from autos, butterfly knives, daggers, etc. The disclaimers that knife companies use have no real legal basis when they say it is your responsibilty to comply with all laws. It is of course the buyers responsiblity to comply with the law, but the same always goes for the seller. If you follow the law in your state and the federal law, then you should be OK. That was what EBAY decided to do and they have several lawyers on their team. They use to allow switchblades under 2" to be sold as that was the California Law ( their state law)but they banned autos for sale due to too many complaints from states they are illegal in.

Be careful when following those lists. Sportsman's Guide, for example, doesn't sell any cutlery to CT- or so their last catalog says. To my knowledge, there is no legal basis for this.
