Help needed Stop-pin screw on my Sebenza doesn't unscrew

Hello,

I just received from the US my Flat ground Sebenza and because of the nice cleaning manual from Ted Voorde and the movie from Danish Viking I decided to disassemble my Large Sebenza and clean it oil it and put it back together.

Well, I was able to unscrew the pivot screw and push out the pin and then remove the blade.
So far so good but of the remaining 2 handle screws only the backspacer screw&pin + backspacer unscrewed but the Stop-pin screw didn't unscrew it just rotates the whole pin and because it's so smooth at the opposite side I can't hold the pin with enough pressure so I can unscrew the stop-pin screw from the other side.

My guess is there's some hardened oil in the threads, no locktite though as both of the 2 other screws were also a little difficult and there was dried gummed oil in the threads making it difficult to unscrew.

What can I do to loosen the stop-pin screw as I want to completely disassemble my Sebenza and clean all the gummed residue from the stop-pin screw+pin threads so that everything screws together nicely. I already cleaned the other 2 screws and thread of the pins that I could unscrew and now everything screws together smoothly.

I don't really fancy sending it over to the US as it just arrived 6 hours ago.

I appreciate any tip  , could WD40 perhaps penetrate the threads of the stop-pin screw? or should I apply a soldering iron to the stop pin screw for a few seconds?

I would place the knife on a rubber surface (something with high friction) and put a lot of pressure on the screw.

If no luck, :grumpy:
try to heat the pin with a hair dryer.

Good luck!

This is what I would do, it may not be something you would want to do although it will work; I would take a flat tip screwdriver of the large variety and pad the end with some cloth or leather. Next step would be to place the tip of the driver into the frame near the backstop screw and applt pressure as you are unscrewing the screw. Works everytime!

I suggest heating the screw with a heat gun or a blow dryer to melt loose the oil. It works every time I have a screw that is too tight or gummed up.

Thomas, Art and Ken,

Thanks a bunch for the tips, the winner is........ Art :D

I used a wooden clothes pin, wel half of it and really had to apply a lot of pressure, but the wood didn't marr the beadblast and finally the stop-pin screw surrendered and came out.
My guess is that the former owner had used a little locktite :grumpy:

I clean it our and that took some doing but now the stop-pin pin and screw smoothly screw together and I cleaned the inside of the handle sides, cleaned and oiled the blade/bronze washer, bushings and put my flat ground Sebenza together.
everything tightens OK now and the blade still glides in with carefull manipulation and pressure, whow what magnificent fit.

I changed one thing, I put the polished pins with the non hex-key holes on the other side then the handle with locking bar as this looks much nicer having all the screw heads, from the clip, and 3 other ones on the side of the handle with locking bar.

Again, thanks guys, best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera,

Don't listen to those guys. Your Sebbie has a serious defect. If I were you I'd get rid of it. To help you out further I'll take it off your hands. I recently opened up a home for orphaned/unwanted/defective Sebbies and would be glad to care for your Sebbie. Please let me know if I can be of service.
t f :D :D ;)

TF,

Yeah, yeah, I've heard about these homes for orphaned/unwanted/defective Sebbies, but I decided to do something good for the World and start such an home all by myself :D

My latest good deed was taking in my "home" three Sebbies that were looking for a home to rest, be admired and pampered, they were born in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and all carried the same number; 19-20 I call them my "Golden Kids" :D

You are now an official knife fixer/tinkerer!:D  The certificate will be in the mail.:)

Thanks again Art,

I'm really happy I now got all screws going smoothly.

Cheers,

Piet,

Congratulations on picking up a flatground Sebbie, they are the best performing Sebbies out there.

Like you I have three Sebenzas (A large Classic S30V, a small Mayonized BG42 Regular, and the FG Regular) but my EDC is the flatground.

Piet, don't forget to put it back in the safe now and work on that BMI :D ;)
