Good Evening Folks,

New here! I received a knife I ordered which finally arrived after ordering it on 19th Feb!

I cannot tell if its genuine or not, it doesn't look as pictured on there website and cannot workout for the life of me if its genuine.

Picture below;

Any help would be greatly appreciated please and thanks!

Jake

Welcome to the forums

Well, where did you order it from? You can't post a direct link but you can tell us the site and/or maker so we can compare to pics to one another.

We also need details. Sounds like the steel is VG10. What is the handle made of? Ebony wood seems unlikely due to sourcing problems (just a guess).

Thank you! It was ordered on Santokuknives.co.uk

Claims to be VG10 with a damscus finish. The handle is apparently black ebony would. The handle itself doesn't look like the ones others have posted on their website.

I only just checked trustpilot but others seem to have experienced the same issue with these.

Just wanted a pretty and affordable knife for work as getting bored of my Victorinox which have seen better days haha.

It's not an expensive knife, so it's probably as advertised. I don't know much about that vendor since I'm in the U.S. Another person can probably chime in on that.

As for not looking like the pictures, that's most likely because it's a professional photo shoot under ideal lighting conditions. "Super models" don't actually look like they do in the photo shoots. Neither do Instagram models. 😜

No worries and looks different .I.e the ones on the reviews have like a brown ring around the tip of the handle where as mine is just a thin metal one followed by a thicker one.

Other way around I mean my apologies, so mine has the thick metal piece then the thin ring on the handle where as in pictures it's more of a brown tint*

Looks like they are just a reseller for knives made somewhere else. Unless they're falsely advertising, they probably just resell cheaper knives made somewhere else and sell them as cheap knives that look to be higher end. I can't tell you how they will perform against nicer VG10 knives, but the only way you'll know is by using it.

We are a family-run company based in the United Kingdom.

From our offices, in a village just outside Leicester, we organise our sales platforms, product portfolio, orders, customer service and any returns.

We work hard to source our products from all over the world, including Turkey and the Far East, to bring you the best that we can find.

At the heart of all we do, is our aim to bring each and every customer a product of the best quality, whilst offering the best customer service that we can, led by a highly-experienced team.

Why don't you ask Santokuknives why they don't look the same? That would be better than us speculating...

Wood, being a natural material, will have variations in color and grain from piece to piece.

And it's possible that the manufacturer made a small change to the knife/model and the vendor is simply using an old photo, and the ones shown in the reviews are the older version. The reviews with photos that I see are a few years old.

Forged with imported VG-10 stainless steel
It looks sort of legit, what bothers me is how come the steel can be “imported” if the knife supposed to be Japanese made ? I always thought Japan is the country producing VG-10 steel... ?

Ikea has VG10 knives and I'm fairly certain those blades are made in China. Not saying that these knives are legit VG10.

Well, this is the thing.. About a year ago my wife bought from A-zon two kitchen knives just because “ we needed new knives anyway and those a so pretty ?” I’ll leave it like this, please be nice…
so the knives are with very thin stock and edge. Advertised as VG-10 core, they are some how hard to sharpen with my WE diamonds, so they are good kitchen knives. As one can see, they are identical manufacturing style but marked as different companies. They are 100% Chinese.
‘Looking at the “Damascus” pattern, I think it’s the same as of the OP’s knife. Doesn’t mean it is a bad knife, I just don’t think it is Japanese and I’m not sure about the VG-10 clad but judging by my knives, it could be real VG-10 or some good Chinese equivalent
‘Sorry for the messed up picture but the top knife illustrates what I meant when compare it to the OP’s knife pattern
