Hello all. I'm SOOOOO NEW to this that its crazy but I'm trying. Defiantly interested in these things. So here goes.

Went to a pawn shop today. Looking at knives and they had a Spyderco. Dumb newbe me didn't even know what it was since the box didn't have the name on it.

I get home and look it up and I see that it's a para military 2. They sell new for $125 ish.
This one was $65

So my questions are,
How do I tell it's not a fake?
Why would there not be a sticker on the box with the name on it?
The action didn't seem super smooth. Wouldn't flick out super easy. Is this common on the bigger spidercos?

And, should I go back a buy it for trade bait?
I don't think I really want it to keep but there is a knife show in 2 weeks.
I'm more interested in a delica, native 5, or manix.......I THINK! Lol.

Thanks
Caleb

If you want to try it out for yourself and you feel like it is a genuine Spyderco, then go for it. If you think that you're going to be able to use it for trade fodder or sell it for more than you paid it for it, I think that you're going to be in for a tough time. If it is a fake that is being sold as a true Spyderco, by either you or the pawn shop, then shame on you. You say you don't think you will want it but are more interested in something like a Delica. Did you know that you can get a Delica brand new from a number of reputable dealers for the same amount of money that you're willing to spend on an unknown?

Caleb,

RE: your question
"And, should I go back a buy it for trade bait?"

What do you mean by "trade bait"?

Regards,

Of all the Spydercos you could consider at a Pawn Shop, the PM2 would be the worst one to pick if you don't know what you're looking at. They are worth every penny purchased new from a reputable dealer.

Thanks for the replys guys. And a personal welcome from Sal.........WOW. THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME!

I've been watching some YouTube videos for spotting fakes. I might go take another look tomorrow.

As far as "trade bait" I simply mean something to use when horse trading and trying to get a good deal. You never know what someone else wants.

The only reason I think I wouldn't want it long term is size only. I'm just not sure I would ever carry something that big.

I don't know. I still wanna go look at it again. The biggest thing to me is no tag on the box. Why would there be no barcode and tag??? Why would someone take it off?

And btw sal: I WILL be buying a Spyderco knife now. I've got others on the list, but a Spyderco I will have soon!

Hello and welcome!

In my opinion, you should use your $65 to get a new Delica from an authorized retailer so you can be sure you have a legit product, especially if you like that model better anyway. It would be a shame for you to spend your money on a fake that's worth far less than $65.

Real Spyderco knives are awesome.

oh,live and learn!this a good place to do that re.knifes, welcome to the forum.

Hi Caleb and welcome to the forum. I would strongly suggest passing on the "too good to be true" pm2. Skip the risk and the drama and jump into the Spyderco world with a Delica from a reputable dealer. Enjoy.

Warning: Buy Spyderco at your own peril.
First one is free, so to speak. After that, you are hooked and there is no going to rehab.

FYI para's are so good that you won't have just one
