Ive had some small success sharpening my knives on a paper wheel with some jewelers cordite and graphite, but my emerson cqc7 chisel grind is just giving me all kinds of problems. Id like to buy some stones to learn how to do it free handed but i have no idea what to look for. I would like some higher grit stones that dont require much maintenance and are reasonble in price(going to college, im poor). As well as a possible stropping block and whatever else may help me.( Would like to have them(my knives) as sharp as possible when finished with the sharpening process)

Maybe someone can help out or refer to another thread that's the same as this?

Contact Richard J on the forum here with a private message, and he can call you and walk you through what you are doing wrong with your paper wheels. You should be able to get excellent results with them. It sounds like from your post that your technique may be off. He is a great teacher with the wheels and is more than happy to help someone that is having trouble.

Blessings,

Omar

Look up Arashiyama 1k and 6k, they are waterstones and will put a wicked edge on a Emerson.

you should be able to get your knife screaming sharp on the wheels. you must be doing something wrong and i would be glad to help you figure out what you are doing wrong. dont waste your money on stones since you already have a system that is a lot better.
