Help... Off centered knives

When I cleaned my folders and assemble them after that, I always manage to assemble them off centered, with blades scrapping the handles. Funny thing is that the knives are perfectly centered before I dissemble them for the first time.

It's only through pure luck and trial and errors that I fit them somewhat centered again (but not as perfect as when they are new). Is there some trick to this, perhaps tighening the screws in a certain sequence or what? Is this common?

Thanks

Having an off-centered blade usually means you've got slop somewhere. Try tightening down all the non-pivot screws first, then slowly adjust the pivot screw until the opening feels right.

Oh, make sure you haven't left out any pieces during reassembly. Check to see if you've got all the washers (sometimes there's more than one on each side) and possibly a small rubber o-ring between the male side of the pivot screw and the frame/scale. I've got a few knives with a pivot o-ring.

Then if the blade is still touching the scales or otherwise crooked, try pushing on the blade with the knife closed. Push it both towards the scale it's touching and also towards the other scale. This might help it "settle" in the centre.

Good luck.

First, loosen up all the screws.

Then start with the screw furthest away from the pivot, and move up towards the pivot, running them down as you go.

I have found that this method can take some of the minute kinks out of the frame, and allow the pivot to come to rest in a better position.
