Hey guys

I need your input on a knife i want to get, but cant find.

1. It has to have a blade-length of max 70mm and not a single mm more.
2. Must be a slipjoint
3. Id like it to have a good steel such as s30v, 154cm, D2, etc.
4.It has to have a nail-nick, and no thumstuds, flippers, holes or any other form for one-handed opening device.
5. A pocket-clip would be a plus!
6. Preferably modern-looking ie. no traditional folders this time.

Only knife ive found that fits the bill is the Fallkniven U1, and im not sure its worth the pricetag as ive heard some say its overhyped and small in size.

Any suggestions on a knife? It cant be true that the U1 is the only one that fits the bill...

Thanks guys

Spyderco DKPK? It has a hole but it's not for opening. Has a clip, modern looking, S30V blade, 68mm.

I say get Alsdorf to make you a custom doctor pattern slippy. You can get as fancy as you want.

I should have written that i already have a DKPK. Nice knife that fits all the criterias, but legally speaking its in a gray-zone because of the hole. It dosent take much effort to open it with your thumb.

@Harkamus

The Alsdorf looks real nice, but at the moment im not interested in traditional looking slippies nor in customs.

I can't think of any knives besides the DKPK that fit what you want. Just a thought, but could you get a knife with a thumbstud that can be removed? The hole it would leave behind would be tiny, I don't think it would fall within that gray area.

I say your other best bet is to get in touch with Snody (he has a forum here) and ask him about it. I know he can make something like that seeming as how he makes friction folders. Price...I'm sure you can discuss that with him. I know he has customs that are reasonably priced...like 200ish. As long as you don't ask for crazy fancy stuff other than blade steel, it shouldn't be too much.

In theory i could remove the thumstuds and fclose the hole with a pin or epoxy, and itll be legal. Alot of good slippies are made with thumbstuds.
That would provide me with alot more options.

Snody makes some nice blades. Ive been seriously considering a custom of some sorts but only thing putting me off is the high price and the relatively long time it takes to finish it.

But the more i think about it, the more im leaning towards a custom. That way ill get it exactly as i want it. But im anxious to see if somebody suggests a knife ive overseen.

I think it is true.

You've listed several requirements, and very tight ones at that. :)

Spyderco is the only company I know currently making non locking, non-traditional knives with clips and super high grade modern steel.
And the four they make all have a Spydie-Hole.

The only ones I could think of were the Fallkniven and a Queen country cousin in D2 - except the latter fails the 'no traditionals' and blade length requirements (I think).

You might take a look at the EKA Compact. Steel is 12C27 and it meets the rest of your requirements but lacks a clip.

SOG Micron
CRKT Slip KISS

Buy what you want, remove the thumbstud and cut a nail nick with a dremel cutting wheel

What about the Cold Steel Paradox. I don't remeber how long the blade is but it needs two hands to open and I don't think it has a lock.

Edit: Nevermind it has a 4 inch blade and thats a no-go for you.

Let me get this straight...
You want a modern tactical folder with none of the features that distinguish a modern tactical folder. The one knife you have found you don't want because some people say it is small, when your list of requirements states that it has to be small.

I'm confused, not that that is anything new. It sounds like time to contact custom makers if you ask me.

Your geographic location, restricted size and opening constraints sound like they are due to legal requirements.

While I know that you mentioned that you are not interested in traditional sliplocks, bear in mind that they cannot be mistaken for anything other than what they are....The same safe pocket knife that you Grandfather carried.

If the cops where you live are so strict that even a Spydie slippie is a problem because of the hole, then you should really consider a traditional.
Alternatively a SAK would also work well.......

Good luck with your hunt......:)

The observant BF member has already figured out that my strict requirements are due to strict laws.

In the case of the U1, ive heard fellow knife enthusiats say its a 3-finger gripping handled knife, and if you have a size 11 hand like me thats not optimal. Other makers have made small knives with relatively larger handles such as the DKPK and Shing, so i know for a fact that my requirements are realistic.

The reason i posted here was to get the input of my fellow knowledgable BF'ers, and ive already gotten some good advice. The Queen Cutlery, CRKT and Snody are all viable options.

@Alfaholic

Ive got nothing against traditional knives, as a matter of fact ive got several. And my edc for the past 2 months have been a SAK Recruit, so ive got nothing against that type of knives. The thing is that its time to try something new, and it has to be something i dont currently have (or have previously had) in my collection.

Thanks to everybody for taking the time post so far, i appreciate it all!
