I am going to buy some buffing wheels. Never bought them before. The "buffer has a grinding stone on it. The stone has a 1 inch hole.
The grinder has a 3/4 inch arbor. There is a cheapo plastic spacer
for the stone grinder.
Should I buy a one inch hole for the buffing wheels ?
OR should I buy a 3/4 inch hole
Which would match the arbor
Thanks for your help again !!!

This is probably a jack-leg way of doing it but......I had to ream my buffing pad out to fit my abor. I hand reamed it using a end mill. It did pretty well.

I dont have to ream anything. the arbor is 3/4 inch and I looked around and there are a lot of buffing wheels for 3/4 inch. But I am wondering why the grinding wheels are 1 inch diameter and not 3/4. the question really is should I follow the grinding stones and find 1 inch buffing wheels or can I just buy 3/4 inch buffing wheels ?

I would buy wheels with the 3/4" arbor hole. The grinding wheel supplier probably only stocks grinding wheels with a 1" hole, and supplies them with the appropriate reducer, for inventory purposes.;)

Thank you Mike,
Oh by the way, I was reading the other thread on pattens and trade marks etc. I dont have the answer, but I will say that this is one hell of a great forum, to be able to discuss all aspects of knives and knife making

It just puzzled me why, if you know the buffing arbor is 3/4, you needed to ask. However, I have asked about a bunch of stuff that after finding the answer wondered why I had to ask. I don't think I would try a 1 inch wheel on a 3/4 arbor. For mine, I had to enlarge the hole to fit on my arbor.
