Hey , Id like to include a fixed blade and kydex small knife into a care package for one of my co workers sending to his daughter stationed overseas.

Is this a good/bad idea? What would be a most appropriate size tool? She works with the loading of ordinance onto the jets.

Is a tek lock the right thing for the kydex sheath?

1. Tek locks are nice
2. Ask her what she needs or like. Very likely she's been issued every tool she needs to do the mission. Anything else is being. A good multitool is probably more practical.

As a former army guy I can say that I always enjoyed getting knives.

I wasn't in combat arms, so my knives always got used for opening things most often. So if you're gonna make something for her make something that can stand up to the abuse that opening ammo crates and foil packages will create.

I'd make it thicker than usual and from a high toughness, high wear resistance steel. I'd go with a 3-4 inch blade and a 4-5 inch, fairly thin full tang handle.

Thanks for the guidance, I have until friday to get this done. I have some .14" thick Magnacut and a cool "tanto" tip design I have been wanting to try.
I am a pretty novice kydex bender, ive only done a few sheaths. I have the chicago style eyelets, just ordered a few tek locks. Is the molded kydex secure enough of a hold or should it really have some type of mechanical retention feature as well?
TIA

I would be sure to include a lanyard hole and maybe a lanyard with a clip or carabiner on the end for security/retention, which will be paramount for her as debris on a flight deck is a very real concern. IDK what here requirements or restrictions may be, but guaranteeing retention would be high on my list for someone on deck.

I think it's a great idea!!!

*if you weren't a maker already, I'd offer to help. I Love making knives for Women.... (Especially in the Service) :D

Good Luck, I know she is going to LOVE it.
