Hello everyone, my first time posting here. I am in the process of picking a new folder to EDC but I'm getting caught up in the massive amount of options that are out there. I am looking for something in the $100-200 price range and I have a few criteria. Those being, I want the blade to be around 3" and I want it to be fairly rugged. Something that could stand up to abuse without having to baby it. I'm torn between a few knives, mainly the Spyderco Para 3 and the WE Knives Practic 809. On one hand the WE has the better blade steel M390 vs S30V but on the other hand the Spyderco has a thicker blade stock and seems to be a bit more rugged in construction. I was also looking at the locking mechanism, between a liner lock on the Practic and the Spyderco compression lock. I don't have experience with them so I don't really know which performs better. Any insight on either of these knives, other recommendations and just information in general would be great. Thanks.

Welcome. Checkout the sales exchange here. You can get better steels for the PM3.
For abuse I would recommend a fixed blade.

Colorodo Colorodo I've seen the variants of the para in S110V but im just too concerned of it chipping. I feel like S30V is more all around even if it's edge retentions isn't there in comparison.

A well done liner lock is usually really great, but 9 out of 10 times I’d choose a compression lock. It’s a better liner lock. Either way I think you should be pleased with the locking mechanism, but I do give my nod to the aforementioned compression lock.

Welcome!
Out of the two you've already looked at, I'd definitely go PM3.

But when you say "abuse", what is that to you?

Rykjeklut Rykjeklut I use it pretty generally. More or less meaning that I don't sharpen or strop it too often, carry it every day, use if for camping, creating tinder, striking Ferro rods, cardboard cutting etc. Pretty much anything that a knife could be used for, I use it for and I don't want to worry about the blade, locking mechanism or construction of the knife when doing so.

For those kind of tasks, were it me,I would pick for myself a L.T.Wright Next Generation in a convex grind. You might take a gander at those. They come in many flavors.
