Hi all,

I will be moving to the area around Charleston, SC in the next few weeks, and I am trying to figure out the law with regards to knife carry (concealed or otherwise). I posted a similar question in the "Knife Laws" forum, but it doesn't look like that forum receives much traffic.

Here's the link to the other post: Original post on BFC Knife Law forum

Thanks for your help!

Starfish,

I suggest you go here and read the laws:

www.scstatehouse.net

You'll want to look at Article 5, Section 16-23-405.

The way I read the law, any concealed knife with a blade over 2" long can be considered a concealed weapon under the wrong circumstances. Blades less than 2" are not weapons by definition. I don't recall any regulation against unconcealed knives and I know that there are no state laws that mention automatic knives.

Two other things to consider about SC:

1. This is a "shall issue" state for concealed weapons (only covers handguns).

2. Its legal (for anyone who can legally own a handgun) to carry a loaded handgun in their closed glove compartment or closed console.

These are two of the reasons people are so polite down here ;) .

There is at least one Charleston area LEO who frequents these forums. He may be able to provide some additional info.
