help on 'naming' a link

You take your link and add the URL= brackets and quotation marks and encapusulate your new title in them.
Use the quote button to see how the code is set up.

Trophy Room

What Karda said is correct, though it's kind of the long hand version.

Copy the link you want. Then click on the Link button in the Reply Toolbar (the little globe between the envelope and smiley). Paste the link then click ok. This will display what Karda described into your post. All you do is replace the text within the bracket.

URL="http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1293816-Trophy-Room-Hunting-and-Fishing-Pics"]Replace Text Here![/URL]
I took out the initial bracket in the front to show you how it looks. Where it says "Replace Text Here!" is where you will see what you want displayed.

Replace Text Here!

I'm not the OP but i need this help too, so, thanks to both. I'm sure your explanation is clear, but not to me. I will try it on my next few posts and likely it will eventually become clear. I never had difficulty learning anything, be it languages, math, sciences, etc. I have completed more than 10 years of university, albeit many years ago. But over the last ~ 12 years i have not been able to master even basic computer usage. When i read an explanation like those given above, it makes no sense to me. It is as though that part of the brain needed to use computers is different from those areas needed for scholastic success. Most people can do both (scholastic & computers), but i'm sure there are others whose experience is the same as mine.
At least it gives me empathy for those with dyslexia.

Let's see if this might help.

https://www.google.com

Or

Google

To get the latter, your typed text should look like this:

[url=https://www.google.com]Google[/url]

Type the left bracket, then url=

Paste the text of the actual link.

Add a closed (right) bracket

Type your chosen word/name (whatever text you want to appear as a 'live' link in your post)

end with a closed url tag: [/url]

Again:

http://www.bladeforums.com/

or

BF

The above link, as typed for the effect:
[url=http://www.bladeforums.com/]BF[/url]

Hope this (also) helps. :)

Thanks, it does help, i think because it assumes i know nothing, which so often is correct.
So, i go to reply toolbar, click on "link" and then enter the text in the manner you show, and then click on "O.K." and then my chosen words will show up wherever my cursor was when i clicked on "link".
I'm hoping this is correct.

I guess we'll find out! :D

[I always type mine manually, as per my post above, so am unclear on the forum software's 'auto' implementation.]

Whatever helps, helps. :)

I think I've got it, so simple once you see what to do. Karda, Benchwarmer, and Pertinux, Thank you very much!

KJ, if you're still having trouble, try thinking of it this way. When you insert your link in the thread, think of it as two parts. The first part is the link location, the second part is the name.

Examine closely the end of Pertinux's post #7:

Change only the 'name' portion to the text you desire, and you're golden :thumbup:
