Help on whether to trade an arius

So I got a Koenig arius in a trade a little while back and really enjoy the design and how well it is made. I ended up being curious about it however since it has a compound grind where it goes from the standard hollow to full flat at the tip. I asked about it on the Koenig fb group and Bill Koenig replied that it is actually a one out of three made early on. So while I love the knife and style I just can't bring myself to carry it in fear that I will lose it. I have carried it a few times but it is only when I know I won't be cutting stuff really or doing much other than play with it.

My question is whether you guys would sell a knife like this for something that you would use or just keep it as a collectable. I have never had a safe Queen since I like using all of my knives I purchase.

doesn't sound like you'll be able to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. pocket some cash, pick up arius #13967 and get back to knifin

If it were me I’d definitely keep it. But I do have a lot of safe queens. I’m a collector so certain knives hold value to me even if they just sit in my safe. That being said I’m definitely not afraid to put my users to work. I have 16 in my rotation:cool:

Well I put it up for trade, but it is going to take something special to catch my eye in order to give it up.

I'd keep, you bought it for a reason, and got a special one. Chances you run into it again would be slim. If you're worried about loosing it, get a belt pouch with snap, you're set.

Do you like it? Just use it, woop di doo, it has a compound grind like what...three dozen other knives? If you think you can make some extra money on it, sell it, buy a customized Arius that you actually love and carry. It's not like you're playing paint by numbers with a seven figure picasso. ;)

If the compound grind was so good, why did they only make 3? If you're worried about not being able to replace it if you lose it, do you realize you won't be able to replace it if you trade it? I also don't understand why you would be less likely to lose a knife you would trade it for than you would the Arius. And the knife you would trade for has to be special, but easily replaceable?

Well I'm not less likely to lose one I trade for but I'm not wanting an even trade for it. Looking for more like a 2 or 3 for one trade. And by special I mean just something that leaps out at me, not something unique or crazy.

If you said it was one of only three with a Damascus blade I would say that is a collectible. A compound grind? BFD, dump that pot belly pig before the market is saturated with them and while you can still get a good price for it.

You got the knife to use, right?
Now that you found out it is a rare configuration you fear that it will be lost. So what happens if you "vault" it? It's not an art knife. Hell, it's not even a dress knife. It was obviously built to be a user. At best it's a limited edition.
Carry it.
Use it.
If you lose it, buy another Arius.
I assume that was your intent when you acquired it. Nothing has changed other than you finding out it's "rare"
I have a one of a kind custom from Bob Ohlemann with mammoth scales.
Pretty rare wouldn't you say? I paid far more for it than an Arius.
I'm not at all wealthy. I save for quite some time to be able to afford the knives I want.
I carry it all the freaking time.

Well ended up trading it to a wicked edge dealer for basically a new pro pack 3 without the case or base. Figure I did pretty good for myself with that deal
