Each knife has a famous Teflon washer system for smooth action, plus an ambidextrous one hand opening mechanism.

What does that mean? Its on a japanese Knife description, is that spring assisted? Automatic? I dont know

Get a waved Spyderco Delica/Endura.

It says "one hand opening". Doesn't sound automatic to me.

And I'll second the Delica, waved or not.

washers separate the blade from the scales, in this case they are teflon. teflon is non pourous and provides a smooth surface against which the blade will move. as a result, the action should be pretty nice, assuming the pivot system is of decent quality.

bronze is another material of which washers are often made.

one hand opening means exactly that. it has a thumbstud, thumb disc, spydie hole, or flipper. you only need one hand to open the blade.

nothing in your post indicates it is assisted or an auto.

Morimoto is right on.

One-handed openers are becoming more popular lately. An example of a two-handed opener is a simple Swiss Army knife, or a buck 110. These knives have blades that require two hands to deploy. One-handers, such as those with a thumb stud, can simply be opened with one hand.

Sounds like Mcusta? There are advantages/disadvantages of both teflon/nylatron and phosphor bronze. The teflon/nylatron allows for smooth movement right out of the box however they are soft and can bend or tear when assembling the knife. Phosphor Bronze washers are solid and can last a lot longer however they require one to either cycle the knife a few hundred times to smooth out or use a fine abrasive to put a polished finish on all contact surfaces.

Agreed with the above -- I'm pretty sure that's from one of Mcusta's product write-ups. And if it is, all that "ambidextrous one hand opening mechanism" means in this context is that it has thumb studs. ;)

yep, they're just describing a manual opening knife with teflon washers. teflon has a very low coefficient of friction. I think one of the lowest for any solid, so it's desirable for knife washers.
