I picked this up out of a collection here in town and can't for the life of me identify the handle material. REALLY dense & heavy, non-magnetic.... kind of feels like Ceramic. You can get a good feel for the appearance from the pictures I have taken. Anyone have a feel for Owen Woods knives on here? By the way, the knife is amazing.... even though quite simple in appearance. It has the most perfect wharny I've ever seen (grind wise). Also, I would love to know anything more about the knife.

From the man himself.... I guess the handles are 303 stainless which is non-magnetic??? Learn something new everyday:

Hi John,

Thank you very much for the email and kind comment. I am pleased that you enjoy my work.

The knife was made whilst I still lived in South Africa. It is one of perhaps 20 of this design that I made in the late 90’s, probably 1998 before moving to the US. The scales are made from 303 stainless, hand rubbed, masked, and bead blasted to create the stripes and then blued. Blade steel is ATS34.

After moving here, I started to use carbon fibre for the scales and added a clip. This changed the nature and the feel of the knife completely.

My focus has changed over the last 6 years – to high end decorative stuff and I no longer make these.

I hope that this helps you.

Owen Wood
