Well, I'm finally getting back outdoors, going backpacking at least once a month. I have a ridiculous number of packs, and I have sleeping bags for all occasions. So now its time for me to really round out my kit with a good stove. I have being using an MSR Pocketrocket and its fine for what it is, but its just not me. I consider fire-making to be a perishable skill and i want to make sure that i am at the top of my game.
I tend to do alot of backpacking in state parks, this precludes me from actually building a fire, however it seems that wood burning stoves are gtg as long as you use deadfall.
I am thinking that i will end up with two stoves. Start out with one that's under 100 dollars such as the SOLO or the Littlbug to get used to using them and later on get one that is premium such as Kifaru or Ti goat when it becomes a little more financially feasible.
I just don't know how packable these stoves are compared to what I am used to using as I have not ever really used one. Weight is not really an issue for me, but pack-ability is. I'm more interested in cooking and treating water than i am in heating, but that is still an attractive feature of these stoves.
So what are you guys using? What do you guys like and recommend for others? Have any of you used any of the stoves I'm considering?
Thanks for taking the time to school me.
