Recommendation? Help picking knife for GF

My gf of several years has a very nice collection of kitchen knives, most of which she uses to open the numerous boxes we seem to get every day, making me cringe. I'd like to get her something small and reliable to use around the house, while camping, and on odd jobs where she might need a blade. My requirements:

  • Folding knife with 2.5-3" blade. She likes the size of a Small CRK Inkosi.
  • Dark color. She isn't a fan of anything bright, so a grey or black would be perfect.
  • Keeps an edge very well. This is going to get some abuse so the tougher the steel the better. I'll be doing the sharpening so something like S110v would be ideal.
  • Ease to use / reliable. The more complex the locking mechanism, the less likely she's going to want to use it, but I also don't want something that's going to fail on her in a few months
  • Cheap. No real budget here, but lets shoot for the $150 mark. Don't mind buying something nicer, but I have a feeling it's going to wind up sitting at the back of a drawer in the not too distant future and would rather avoid getting an expensive paperweight. Thinking maybe Spyderco or Benchmade, but anything goes.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Someone is currently selling a like new Kizer Gemini w/box and papers in the exchange for $100. That’s a good deal and appears to meet your requirents. S35VN steel. (Technically the blade is 3.1” but still a neat little piece).

I find Spyderco knives some of the ugliest knives ever made. Despite being good, I’ll never buy one based on hideousness alone. Except maybe a Nirvana. What woulda a woman think? No Spydercos unless she’s got hairy legs and a bigger mustache than me.

I know it's not what you requested but for opening boxes, odd jobs and camping a Victorinox like a Huntsman would be great. Then get her a fixed blade of some sort. You could get those for 150 dollars. And she would be better covered than having one lock knife.

Native 5 or delica of some variant would be my recommendation. I'd also suggest coming up with some options and having her pick.

I'll vote for the Mini Griptilian. 20CV/G10 model. I'm horrible with Benchmade's number system so I'm not even going to attempt it. Superior steel, superior warranty, priced well, and the Mini Grip's reputation speaks for itself. My mini Ritter would be one of the very last knives I'd get rid of. It's almost perfect for normal carry. Plus you get a choice in blade shape, so if you can ask her which one she'd prefer.

I went through several small knives with my SO and the only one that stuck, and she actually really loves it and uses it, was the Spyderco Ladybug. It's ground so thin that I don't think it really can go dull, but the paper thin VG10 just needs a couple strops and it's back to laser sharp. Throw a small little lanyard on it and she'll be good to go.

The Chaparral's been recommended a couple of times, but I'd recommend it with the Raffir Noble scales. I think they're neat.

I think I would just take her to a knife shop or on line shop and let her pick it herself. Girls buying for their boyfriend no problem, but buying for the girlfriend ? They can vary so much on what they like. Maybe some of our female members will weigh in.
Spyderco's are probably as good as anything
It has to be pink-right??? :)
I can however see how this is going to turn out. She is going to get her nice new pocket knife, and still be using the kitchen knives to open everything-habit

Spyderco Delica ZDP, DPx HIT Cutter, Maxamet Native, K390 Urban, Böker Urban Trapper ("only" vg-10), lionsteel dom, DF2 ZDP
For an user/abuser knife the ZDP Delica would be my #1 choice

Also in your original Post you may want change >150$ to <150$ :D

I'm gonna be the next one to suggest a Benchmade. A mini-grip comes in enough colors to fit the bill of what you're asking, with the added bonus of having the easiest to use and strongest lock on the market. The new 20CV steel/gray G10 handle version is a FANTASTIC upgrade to the base model, too. They run $150-170, so only slightly above your range.
