Help--Pivot Screw on 635

The blade tension on my BM635 was pretty tight, so I attempted to loosen the pivot screw a bit. It turned some (a little too much actually), and then froze up. Now when I try to tighten or loosen the screw, the opposite side merely turns as well, and there's no way to secure it. As it is, the frame is now a bit loose, and the blade lies to one side when closed. How can you adjust the screw when there's no way to lock the other side? Do I need to send this to Benchmade? It seems silly to have to send a knife back to the manufacturer just so that they can tighten a screw!

Thanks a lot for your help!

Well, you could try to lock the pivot by gripping the blade shut, while its closed (like a pliers grip). This may stop the pivot from turning while you loosen the screw.

If it wasn't a new knife, I'd suggest the old soldering iron on the threaded portion (pivot) trick. Heat it up a bit, it expands, looser fit results, turn out screw. You can still do it, but I'd seriously consider returning for repair.

It might just be a lot of thread locker in there. Sometimes nail polish remover, or some similiar distillate, will leech in and loosen it when applied. Wintergreen (Methyl whatever it is -ate) works sometimes. too.

Not sure what to tell you, but the couple of times I've disassembled my 635 I noticed it doesn't have the D shaped pivot like other BMs. Instead, it is completely round and I couldn't find a way to get the lock side of the pivot to come out. It wouldn't spin and wouldn't back out at all even after giving it a few taps. Good luck :)
