The original thread that I posted is here with pics: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Help-with-Damascus-please!?highlight=damascus

Someone told me to ask this is shop talk, therefore here I am.
Basically I'm just wondering if there is any way I can get this hairline scratch out of this beautiful Damascus Delica I received from my father as an early Christmas present, the scratch is not deep, it is the only imperfection on the blade and it came to me this way, if there is anything that I can do to take the scratch out without damaging or ruining the Damascus blade? if anyone has any ideas or know of something that I can do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I would like to help and will try without a picture. Hey I don't know how to post to the forums.
It will have to be removed probably just by sanding. I would try 600 first to see if that will do it. Then I imagine there was an etch to bring out the pattern and that would have to be done over, prefferably after the blade was removed from the knife. As well the etching will require masking off with nail polish or another resist certain areas. No, it's not a simple process but in truth is not a difficult job if one has back ground. Frank

Thanks for the advice, I'm guessing this is basically the only way then? the pictures I took were posted in the link up top, Would there be any easier way such as some sort of polish I can get? sorry if this sounds stupid I'm just kind of new to dealing with this sort of thing.

Don't f#@& with it, seriously, in your thread you say you are not going to be using it, you are keeping it for a collector's piece. The only way to remove a scratch is to remove enough of the surrounding metal so that everything is even with the bottom of the scratch, my guess since you are asking here is that you have neither the tools nor the experience to regrind the flat as well as the factory did, you will likely not match the etch to the other side without regrinding that too, either way you will have substantially modified the knife destroying the collector value

Page is right.. I still suggest contacting the manufacturer and see if they can help you (with a replacement), rather than trying to do it yourself.

alright thanks guys, I wasn't planning on sanding it and such because you're right, I do not have the experience at all, the scratch is barely visible and not deep at all, I think it just came from the factory like this to be honest, I could live with it if I need to. This was the only one there unfortunately. thanks for all the input guys, it kinda sucks that it has this on the blade but in normal light you can't see it at all. It's mostly just me being picky, you all know how it is right? :p anyway, I really appreciate it, thanks all.
