Sorry I don't own the SAK in question and didn't have a camera then.
But by a matter of chance, I had stumbled across a modern vintage vicky (late 20th century I think).
Owner insisted that it's a Craftsman.
But the tools seriously don't match-up to the Craftsman I know of.
So, I would appreciate any help on this.
Thank's for looking.

As far as I can remember, the specs are as below.
91 mm
Red scales
5 layers
Large blade
Small blade
Can opener/mini screw driver tip
Screwdriver/cap lifter
Fish descaler/hook remover/rule scale
Metal file
Wood saw
Scissors with "screw pivot"
Split key ring attachment

And rather strange that on it's back - rest only 3 tools:-
Chisel
Reamer
Cross screw driver

Question - Is this a vintage Craftsman?
Or any remote idea what this represents???!

Wow! Pre-'73 ???!
That goes a long ways back...
Thank's Lurker.
No wonder there wasn't a plier-bladetool on that!

You are welcome. It sounds like your friend has an interesting knife there. It is possible he got the Champion name and the Craftsman name mixed up somewhere along the line because they are similar names. They almost never put the model name on the tool anywhere, so this is a common situation. A good reference for different SAK models including vintage ones is www.smartknives.com

Yeah! That's the thing with making "friends".
It's so much easier "breaking the ice" with an SAK in hand!

But seriously, I did look up SMARKknivesDOTcom before posting here.
I thought I had it nailed down with as the MasterCRAFTSman (the NASA Spaceshuttle model).
Except that, what would anyone be doing with a fishing tool in space?!!
Back to square one...

The thing is, the only proper reference anyone could hope for is in having owned the complete set of brochures and annual catalogs from Victorinox.
And that might prove to be the most elusive SAK hunt of all.
Thank's again "Lurker".
I guess it's a dead end after all.

I can hypothesize, since the sure giveaway is the "screw pivot" scissors, that it is older than you or your friend think. It can possibly be a Victorinox Outdoorsman, pre magnifying glass.

Might be wrong though.

Nice try!
I could have read wrong,
but the 1970's vintage Outdoorsman (pictured by one Mr. James Christian)
is even more unlikely with the pruning blade (??!); which the vintage "craftsman" in question, doesn't have.

I must say how much that particular '70's Outdoorsman doesn't match up to the later production "Marlboro Outdoorsman" (ie with magnifying glass bladetool).

Which according to smartknivesDOTcom has a amongst other things, a
Large Blade
Small Blade
Can Opener with Small Screwdriver
Bottle Opener with Large Screwdriver
Scissors
Wood Saw
Fish Scaler
Magnifier
Phillips Screwdriver
Awl
Corkscrew
Hook
Fine Screwdriver
Toothpick
Tweezers
Key Ring

What had happen to that pruning bladetool, I wonder!

Think to remember about the vintage knife in question is that it has no corkscrew as it had a philips screw driver in it's place, and has only one other tool on its back - that chisel!

This is all rather mind boggling, but I love the mystery...
Life is like an unnamed SAK, you'll never know what tools are inside (to partially steal a famous quote from Forrest Gump)

Remember, the Marlboro knives were a bunch of later models (later meaning the knives having almost like specs we have today) and the pruning blade isn't a standard blade amongst SAK's.

The suspense is killing!
It's amazing just how many varients there are with singular differences.
For instance, the present day Handyman is merely a last production Craftsman with a corkscrew instead of a "crafty" philips screwdriver.

Sounds like a vintage Craftsman to me. Is the phillips square shaped rather than round?

If its round, it probably has a slot for opening tins.

I have one with the same tools and it was offered by Hoffritz and probably by Victorinox as well.

"scibeer"
About that philips svrew driver...
I can't quite rightly say, but I think that it was kinda angular rather than round.
That being the case, all the more a vintage for sure?

Hi GIRLYman
Just wondered if this could be a mod? I have heard so much about mods here and at SOSAK. Just a question since information on it appears to be lacking.
Sincerely,
Mouse

Wow! Thank's for trying.
A "mod", you say?
Don't believe the owner is a SAK "collector"; especially since he did not display any signs of deep affection for his "Swiss pocket knife".....
But, I do believe that the entire unit was aquired new by its owner some time back.
I most regret not having taken the time to find ot when!
