Hey all you pm2 lovers out there, I need some input! I arrived in the u.s. today and eagerly opened my package with my new paramilitary 2. As soon as I opened the knife I began to worry. The knife opened smoothly but when the lock engaged I didn't hear what I expected. I have a manix 2 LW and a pacific salt. Both of those locks engage with a resounding "thwack". The pm2 lock I can barely hear! It's a very soft and light lockup sound. Is this normal?? It's got me really worried because it just doesn't have any of that authoritative locking sound of my other spydercos. I mean its REALLY soft sounding....imagine BARELY pulling up the tab on an un opened beer can then releasing it. That's the best description I can give. it does do the double click, just very softly.

The lock seems to be engaging properly and lockup seems strong with no blade play in any direction, but it's the sound (or lack thereof) that's got me worried.

Appreciate any input. I hope that this is normal because I want to love this knife. Please don't rip me! I'm not saying something's wrong, I'm just trying to figure if my knife is working properly.

Thanks in advance,

Lance

Ok, thanks for the quick responses...I'm breathing a sigh of relief! I only have a few spydies and they all have really loud locks! I know this is a completely different lock, but it sounded so unlike my other spydercos it had me worried! Very happy to read your responses. The knife feels great in hand! I opened a fully serrated pacific salt at the same time and WOW! Its a BEAST!! I can't wait to get that one out in the kayak! :-).

If you want more of a "thwack" learn to flick it open with your middle finger :) other then that its a nice quiet knife, thats how mine is

Heheh. Oh, don't worry my friend, I've been all over the middle finger flick ever since I got my manix 2! :-).

Yup, now I'm doing a "thumb thump" kind of like shooting a marble. Power! That's my new favorite. The pm2 opens extremely fast and easy!

Oh yeah, and I just opened my new sharpmaker, (did I mention it's like Christmas around here right now?). Buddy, five minutes into it and I have reached a whole new level of sharp! The pm2 is now a straight razor!! I am running out of body hair very quickly!!

Here kitty kitty kitty...

Lol, just kidding! Maybe ;-)

All 3 of mine "clack" when opened, but I guess I don't baby the thing. I flick every knife with extreme authority!

Reminds me of when I first started to get knives shaving sharp.

You can also tighten/loosen the pivot bolt and stop pin screw slightly and see how the action changes. This will allow you to customize the opening to suit your preferences. I like mine a bit looser so the blade swings freely - but at the expense of a slight amount of side-to-side play when the blade is unlocked. If you tighten it down (we're talking a quarter turn or so), the action become stiffer and more like a traditional back lock.

Play with it until you get it like you like it! Enjoy!

Stealth lock. Mine has it.

Yeah SG, what you received here is a ninja's PM2 :D

I totally understand expecting a certain sensory stimulus from an anticipated blade, eventually being thrown off by an aspect in hand.
Having noted that the lockup is functionally good to go, if any adjustments do not result to your liking, it's time to embrace the character of your new whip ;)

If you're looking for a serious clunk when opening, go for that Gayle Bradley. :D

Yeah Phil, I'm pretty happy with my lineup right now, but if I go crazy in the future the gayle Bradley is probably next. And I'm stoked with the pm2! I don't have any need of a specific sound from my lock, I was just a bit put off and concerned at first. Sounds so different from my lockbacks that it worried me. I was really relieved to read all your responses because I REALLY like the knife. Feels WAY better in my hand than my manix! I know some disagree, but that's why they make different knives. :-). I'm happy with what I've got for now!

P.S. the pacific salt is awesome too! Manix actually got bumped into third place behind both of these.
