Help, please: Replacement scales/handle for Spyderco Merlin?

I have had a Spyderco Merlin since the mid90s. It saw plenty of use and was my EDC for about 5 years. I purchased it because I did a lot of rock climbing and rappelling and it was the perfect blade to keep on me.

One day my 3 year old son greeted me as I came in the door and, as he jumped into my arms, I felt the integrated clip of my Merlin snap.
I tried to continue to EDC it but, after awhile, I no longer liked the way it carried because of the lack of the clip. So it was relegated to my knife bag and has been used sparingly since.

I am interested in getting it into my current EDC rotation, but really need to get the scales fixed/replaced so I can have a clip.

Is this possible? Or is there a mod you might suggest? Or any other thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated...

Thanks so much!

Jax

If you send them to Spyderco, they might fix it. I hear they used to replace the integral clip with a metal one, but that thread is from 2004 so I'm not sure if they still do. Spyderco tends to take care of their long term customers really well though. I would send in the knife and see what they say. Spyderco does enjoy seeing knives that have been used, rather than knives that have been sitting on the shelf for 20 years.

I didn't realize that... Thanks for the info.

Should I try and contact them first or just send it in with my story and ask if they can help?

Hi JaxOver9s,

As mentioned, please contact Customer Service or bring it into the store.

Sal,
Excellent... I think I will make plans to drive out to Golden and visit the store. I've never been there and didn't realize it was more than just an office and manufacturing center.
