I am posting a few pictures of Buck's I recently obtained. I need help to date the and perhaps some about them.
The First are 2 192 Vanguards except one is shorter than the other. The short one has "Buck over USA on the left side of the blade and reads from the top of the blade to the bottom. The larger is also stamped on the left side and is stamped Tip to heel Buck Over 192- over USA (a 1992)
Second one is a 3 line 103 however I the blade appears original and not modified.
Third is a 121 with the scale and has "Buck" side ways on the blade rather than tip to heel.
Finally I have a 102 with the blade stamped in old English style with Buck over Custom over USA on the left side of the blade.
Any info on these would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all of you knowledgeable collectors , Mike

Here's info (below) on the small Vanguard. What is it you want to know about the large one? You have already dated it to 1992, correct? If that's correct, it will be from the first year that they showed up in the catalog.

Re: the mini-Vanguard. Those were made as an exclusive for BPS and show up in the 2006 Special Projects list (found in the March 2007 newsletter). There were four versions, the 486 (mini 191 zipper/wood handle), 687 (mini 192 vanguard/wood handle), 688 (mini 691 zipper/rubber handle) and the 689 (mini 692 vanguard/rubber handle).

According to the list they were made in the following numbers:

686--770 made
687--750 made
688--800 made
689--800 made

You can't always depend on the number made in the list to be accurate, sometimes they are projected numbers and not actual numbers produced.

RE: the 121, checkout this thread, particularly post's #4 and #5. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/809882-The-121-Fisherman-Guide-Story?highlight=121

As for the age of the 121, that model was only produced in 1964. The listed thread, in post 2 will give you all that info. I love that knife. The 103 is considered "clipped" and who know who or when it was clipped. Otherwise you have a 103 made from 1973-1981.

Thanks for some answers Dave. Here is a quick photo. If you need more just holler. Thanks, Mike
