I have inherited this sword (or is it a long bayonet) and don't know anything about it. I would appreciate any help in identifying it. It is a little over 28 inches - with a slight curved blade. There is a small gold colored crest at the base of the scabbard. I believe the handle wood covered. Sure would like to know what my mother was dragging around all these years. Thank you.

Sorry, Not only can't I identify my sword - I can't upload the images I've taken. I'll try again later.

Huh--can't say as I recognize that one--resembles a machete more to me than a sword. Maybe Joezilla will spot this and give you an opinion. He usually knows these things whenever I don't. Any maker's marks?

Thanks so much. The scabbard has a stamped O8 or 80 underneath the crest emblem. The blade has a stamped 65 with a line underneath near the hilt. No other markings that I can see. I described it as a sword because of my ignorance and the look of it - slightly curved, length, and width of blade. Thanks for any assistance.

Very interesting looking piece. Middle eastern military possibly.... I have no idea really - just a guess from looking at that crescent moon star/sun over the globe badge on the scabbard, and the overall shape of the blade and scabbard & hilt.
I could be off by a whole hemisphere.

It bears a passing resemblance to the German WW2 Luftwaffe survival machete, but clearly that isn't what it is. The guard is different, frog stud on the sheath is different, handle markings, etc.

Yeah, definitely looks like a machete to me...quite possibly one of military manufacture.
