All you Schrade experts………. Can you tell me what this is?
It's a fixed blade knife 9 1/4” o.a.l. and 4 7/8” long blade.
The handle and guard are identical to a 165 with the Old Timer shield.

The blade more resembles a 153uh but is flat ground. The spine has a smaller radius grind to it giving the tip a more swept up appearance than the 153. The spine exits the guard straight for about an inch before the radius grind starts. Also, the grind on the heel is identical to a 165.

The right side of the blade is etched with “Schrade” with two Xs over it.
You can barely make the tops of the letters “Schrade” on the tang and just in front of the bolster. It has been almost completely ground off. The grind marks are definitely from the factory.

I believe this is some version of the 165 however, I’ve not been able to locate a picture of one exactly like it. This knife has never been touched. It is exactly the way it was when purchased new. It's age? At least 6yrs. maybe as old as 15, hell I don't know. All I know is it's not a Taylor knife.

Is this a second or defective knife maybe? There are two small flaws on the handle and a couple scratch marks on the blade side of the bolster.

I know a picture would help, but I’m new here and haven’t decided weather to spend money to upgrade my membership yet. I have to test the waters before I spend $$. So far so good though.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

In the short time I have been exposed to the mystery of Schrade I have learned a few things. Folks with much more knowledge than I will chime in shortly but usually factory ground tangs or names XX'ed out indicate seconds that were either marked for destruction or sold at Schrade's factory store depending on degree of error. As to model and variations, I would hesitate to voice an opinion.

That's it. Thanks Codger. That picture pretty much tells the story. I have a second.

If you don’t mind, could you answer this for me?

The one I have has a split guard. Is that typical for this model?

Thanks again.

The full tang knives such as the 165OT and 160OT have split guards, though they are usually cardfully fitted and the line does not show, or if it does, it appears to be a casting line. That was their way of getting the guard on over the larget tang butt, and blade. There is an external cross pin. It also is usually finished flush and not noticable. Sometimes it is seen if it is sunken too deeply.

Here is a 165 blade with all the clothing gone. You can see where the guard nests, and where it is pinned. The 160 is the same.
