I'm trying to find the 2 piece handle screws (hex or star drive) used on a lot of tactical type knives.

They look similar to these, except have a matching female side for attaching handle scales.

Can anyone tell me what the exact name of these screws is so I can find them properly? Or provide a link to a supplier, that would be awesome.

Also, one other quick question. When using these with some micarta or g10 handle scales, could these only be used to fasten them to the tang (so they can be removed for cleaning later) or, do the scales really need to be epoxied on and the screws are simply there for decoration?

Thanks!

Chainring bolts (Which are hollow), primarily used for bicycyles. Usaknifemaker had a run made up specifically for us knifemakers.

PS added although you might be thinking of threaded standoffs which go in the middle of the handle between the two screws.

Ah, Chainring bolts...those are exactly what I was talking about. Are they suitable fasteners for handle scales?

Depends if you want them to be remove or not.I use loctite on folder pivots,on fixed blades I epoxy them in.

Well, I thought that the novelty of them would be that you could remove them to clean the blade or easily change out scales. These will be for a fixed blade.

Use a drop of Locktite Red to keep them snug, but allow disassembly when desired.
