Hi everyone,
I was hoping to never have to ask for this kind of help.
My fiancee has passed away and has a number of knives, swords and tomahawks. Any suggestions on how to handle their sale? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sorry for your loss. You can try and sell them as a lot or individually, but make sure you know what you are selling so you don't lose a bunch of $. If you want to ask what you have and what they are worth, you will need a gold membership here which also allows you to sell them on the exchange.

Hello ,

I am very sorry for your loss, my sincerest condolences

As for the collection. I would start by inventorying everything. Then gather as much information as possible for each item, maker , material , condition , etc. Do your research as for values of the items. Make a master list of all this numbering items and tag them accordingly.
To sell here on Bladeforum’s you will need a gold membership. You will also need this if you want to post pics and ask values for items. You can post pics for info right now, but not value $$$
Depending on the number of items. I would sell in small organized amounts. Say you have multiple makers and 3 or items by said maker. I’d list items one maker at a time.

Organize , research , research !! , sell

I hope this helps

One last thing , is the possibility that you have items of investment quality. You may in your research find you may have items worth holding onto as investments. These you may want to keep and store away safely.

You should probably start by just identifying what they are. You can take pictures in batches and post them here for identification (cannot sell or ask about values), and we can tell you whether you have a collection of flea market knives of no value or a treasure trove.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your loved one.

This forum is an excellent venue on which to sell a knife collection with the caveat that you need to know what the knives or other items you have are, eg. Maker or manufacturer and model, and approximately what the items are worth.

You would need a paid membership, around $35 annually for a gold membership, to sell your items here and or ask values.

You then are able to post pictures of your items here and also create sale threads in appropriate sections of the forum.

The membership here would be able to help with identification with knowledge and integrity from what I have seen over the years.

There are other options available, including consignment of the entire collection to online entities that specialize in cutlery, and they would do the identification and assist with valuation, but of course the convenience of that service comes with a higher cost in the form of a percentage of the sale price.

I hope this helps and best of luck with the sad tasks you have in front of you.

Did this account belong to your fiancee? It was opened three years ago with very little activity on these forums since. (Mainly related to one specific area.)

What city/state are you in? Depending on your location, it is possible someone here could direct you to a knowledgeable person local to you.

Thank you for your thoughts and information. I knew I could get unbiased information from his fellow collectors.

Use the Completed Items search on eBay to learn the value and popularity of each knife. Be sure to compare knives of only the same brand, same model, and same condition.
Any you can't find on eBay or need more information, post back with good photos and someone will certainly help you. Of special importance, good closeup photos of the tang stamps and other markings.
Good luck.
