I would like my fellow knife nuts to help me. Would you go with a Mini Manix, or save a little more and get a Benchmade 630 Skirmish? I really love my Spydercos but I don't have any Benchmades yet. I know I will end up with both, but what would you buy first? As for use I will be cuting normal cardboard, tape, blister packs, you know normal stuff. I don't really NEED a tank like the Manix, but its nice to go over kill to. The Skirmish is no slouch in the tank department also. I don't have any g-10 scaled knifes yet, but I also do not have any Titanium scaled handled knifes either. I could ramble on and on thats just the nut in me. Anyways please help a fellow knife brother out. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you'll get both eventually, I'd get the Skirmish first. It just seemed more fun to me. Fun to look at, play with, sort of exotic maybe?
The mini manix I think will work better, open easier, more comfortable, but is kind of ho-hum in a way.
G-10 is nice and grippy, but the titanium also feels good, though it will scuff/scratch easily.
And you're right, the Skirmish is a TANK, it's huge.
Just some of my thoughts.

The smaller skirmish is one of the slickest, entry level production knives on the market. Premium material, integral lock, fit and finish is great considering the small price tag and carries tip down. IMO

thanks, I'll be going down to the army store soon to molest the skirmish. They have it, but not the mini manix, the Skirmish seems very well made, also seems like it should be higher then the 150 its priced at. Titanium mixed with s30v sounds great, but everyone touts the mini manix as the do all and end all spyderco. O well guess I'll get both, but I really think I'll get the Skirmish or have them order me the mini Skirmish first.

I would buy the Spyderco if for no other reason than the fact that the Skirmish is ripping off Spyderco's copyrighted Spyderhole.

I agree:thumbup: Both are nice knives the manix will be a better bang for your buck as a workhorse and a true cutter but like mentioned above the 635 has very good qualities as well.

The Manix is a no B.S. workhorse. It is tough and cuts very well.

The Skirmish is a tough knife, but it is more fancy. It certainly looks more interesting, but the looks may not hold up to a lot of heavy work.

The titanium handle scales are strong, but are easy to scratch and stain (not with rust, I mean things like ink and dirt show up easily and are hard to get rid of).

With a workhorse knife like a Sebenza, this is no biggie. Sebenzas look better with some wear. But the Skirmish may start to look pretty ragged if you plan on doing some hard, dirty work.

I own(ed) a Large Manix and Large Skirmish. They are both great, but I tended to bring my Manix to work more often because it was ready to get dirty and banged up. I loved to fondle my Skirmish, but if the good looks got ruined (and in just a couple days at work, I could see it start to happen), it wouldn't have anything on the Manix.

If you don't plan on needing a knife when you have a lot of dirt, ink, or oil on your hands, or don't plan on putting the knife through any tough work where it might get dinged up, then just go with your heart. My heart would cry Skirmish as it is so beautiful, yet mean. But the Manix is, IMO, more practical.

Don't let me give you the impression that the Skirmish is a dainty little dress knife that is too fragile for real work. It is a great work knife. But the main advantage of the Skirmish over the Manix is, IMO, looks. And the Skirmish does not look good with a lot of use and wear/tear on it. The Manix does not show use and wear/tear much at all, and what it does show looks good on it as it looks purposeful and marks don't take away from the look.

I don't carry either anymore. Sold the Skirmish. Selling the Manix.

To fondle and show off? BM. To use? Spydie. Simple as that. Most people here have given good reasons to support this.

Thanks everyone, I ordered the mini manix friday. I will get the mini Skirmish next. I own a bodyshop, and I also do most the work so dirt oil and grim it will be. Mini Manix it is.
