The "bolt" is a one-sided T8. The "nut" side is smooth. I'm having trouble stopping the smooth nut side from turning as I try to loosen the bolt.

Any tips? Are my thumbs not manly enough?

thanks.

What usually works for me is to open the blade and put lateral pressure on it by pushing it against something like a piece of wood. That usually will bind the bolt enough to keep it from spinning.

(Just don't overdue it).

It seems like you figured it out, but I have a tip.... you can use a pencil with the eraser held against the smooth pivot. This holds the pivot with the friction from the eraser while you turn the other side.
