HELP - possible fake cqc-7 mini?

So i just purchase a mini cqc-7bw. right out of the box i felt a little bit disappointed. The liners feel and sound cheap. the lock makes a sort of grinding chipping noise while unlocking it. There is very small, but noticeable movement side to side on the blade.

I've also been looking at some images online trying to make comparisons. I've noticed that the production number located just under the thumb disc is always combined and placed under another word or number. It's hard to read but likely says "mini-b". as you can see mine does not have this. on mine, just under the thumb disc is 4 numbers alone.

overall it just doesn't feel like the "little tank" i've heard and read so much about.

please also note the chiseled look of the inside of the wave feature. Is that normally much smoother?

Is there some definitive way to tell if this knife is fake? Does anyone have any photographs of their own mini cqc-7bw, preferably a 2009 model, as that is the year mine reads.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I will attach a few photos.

Everything looks right to me. I agree, the inside of the wave may be a bit rough, but probably not outrageously so. The typical tells of a fake are torx screws in place of the regular screws in the handle, a wonky looking logo, wrong knurling on the thumb stud, a domed backside of the pivot screw, wrong or incomplete patent # and probably some others that I'm forgetting. Everything on yours looks correct so I would say no, not a fake. Perhaps some other more knowledgeable members will chime in with their opinions as well.

Beleive me that is what I want to hear. Any major problems that develop I know Emerson will make right. Feeling like I just got scammed is the worst. I guess I'll let it break in a bit and see how I like it down the road. Thanks for the quick reply.

Everything looks correct to me and I have a nice collection so know what I'm looking at. It's an Emerson:cool:

The wave looks a little different, but being hand made that is how it goes. Enjoy it as being uniquely yours. As for the rough feel of the lock etc., Emersons are known for requiring a break in period. Finallyr the blade play can probably be remidied by slightly tightening the pivot screw.

I am holding in my hand an almost brand-new Mini-Commander purchased from NGK and the wave recess looks exactly like the one in your picture.

Deleted.

hmmmm its getting harder and harder to tell the knock offs apart. i just got suckered into a knock off boker a couple weeks back on ebay, but paypal took care of it and i got my money back.

The grinding noise from the locking liner is common when titanium is used. It tends to stick to the tang of the blade. The bladeplay can be adjusted with the narrow flat head on the pivot.

If you have it loose when its new it will have some play. If you have it loose enough to "thumb flick" like you would a Benchmade or others, it's too lose.

I don't want to argue but this is not true of all Emersons. Not one of my Emersons had blade play and all could be flicked open easily. I don't have any newer EKI's so maybe this is the problem???

Anyhow, I just wanted to add this to the discussion. I was just taking pics of a few of mine and you can see the wave has no machine marks. On the 12 there are some machine marks on the Titanium handles but no where that it matters.

Also, all of my emersons started off smooth locking, opening and closing.

Just saying.:)

Here are some pics that show the crafstmanship. The "Production" EKI's I have are just the same.

thanks for the info, it is appreciated. Do you have any photos of your knife? Specifically a shot of the closed blade to show it's center.

Thanks a lot.

I have the same exact problem on my CQC 13. The liner lock feels very weak and it makes a grinding and chipping sound every time I unlock it. It also has up and down blade play. I wasn't satisfied at all with my first Emerson knife.
